New regulations for automatic gates

Postby USINSPAIN » Mon Apr 16, 2012 1:25 pm

d my electronic gate repaired a while ago the man who did the repair has now sent me an Email regards new regulations for automatic gates

In a nutshell, because all automatic gate systems by LAW must be in compliance with the Machinery Directive MD2006/42/EC and supporting standards, you must now have:
A risk assessment completed.
Declaration of conformity (Handed over with gate)
Manufacturers CE marked stamp or label (Handed over with gate or applied to gate)
Force testing results
Guide for safe use of gate operational instructions (Handed over with gate)
Installation / Maintenance logbook. Copy held by installer for 10 years.

any body know anything about thses regulations

Risk assessment = Danger of death or serious injury . That's all I ever wrote on the many I had to fill in back in the UK. Worked for me, never had anyone question one ever !

If a toddler got crushed and killed by one of these devices then it wouldn't be such a laughing matter!

That is what risk assessment is about.

on the subject of electric gates, you might think Oh come on not more regulations but last year in our village one of the spanish ladies grandson went to run through as the gates were closing and got caught by his head , the grandmother was was screaming not knowing what to do luckily there were a couple of men around who turned off the power and were able to force the gates apart also the gates were in a wall close to the house it would have been a different story if the gates had been at the beginning of a drive. luckily the little boy was okay just bruised.

Maybe if there wasn't such a "don't do as we do, do as we tell you" attitude, expats who generally want to do the right thing, wouldn't be questioning it.

Maybe they should start with all the local politicians mansions and the hoteliers office buildings, First. Surely it's better to lead by example?

If they are installed correctly with the photo-cell movement detectors + auto-reverse , ( two sets on wing type opening gates) audible alarm ,etc: then their shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately alot here aren't installed correctly even by the so -called 'professionals' !
