Are you doing anything for the Jubilee?
Are you doing anything for the Jubilee?
I hear there are a few things going off in Marbella and Benalmádena and Gibraltar is hung down in flags and bunting (they would be wouldn't they). Sure all the british legions will be doing something.
I am not a Royalist but I enjoy the pomp and ceremony. Monday we are going to a street party in my daughters road, some kind old Gent has donated a £1000 so it is free champagne until it runs out. Everyone is taking something...I am taking cup cakes with the union flag on (bought ). Son-in-law is doing blinis. Grandson says does he have to go On Tuesday we have been given tickets to a stand outside Buck palace with nibbles afterwards...so you could look for me, I am not the one with the Pippa bum, I may give a two finger wave

Re: Are you doing anything for the Jubilee?
Yes, we are doing "The Big Lunch" on Sunday.
American BBQ style - the guests bring the main course to cook for themselves and a salad or dessert for about 6 people.
We have a team of cooks and a very big BBQ etc. The latest count is 47 guests.
Loads of bunting, balloons and Union Flag tablecloths etc.
Should be fun!

Good for you Cid
We are having a beacon party Monday night. Applied for a licence. Not necessary if I only set fire to less than a thousand hectares!
looking forward to the Thames boats fest.

My son and a few of his friends are really going to get into the swing of things. They are leaving for Germany !.
However he still has taken advantage of ( via me ) the Caxton Jubilee special offer ( for 24 hours only ) to purchase euros at 1.235.

I'll be going to work as normal. I'm not being a humbug, It's just I'm a little bit out of the loop up here.
I did celebrate the other two though.

I think you probably are a Royalist as this is what it is all about.

Re: Are you doing anything for the Jubilee?
I am not a royalist, and not keen all the pomp and ceremony, but we normally do do it well! However I'm more than happy to contribute my 62p or whatever it is the Royal Family costs each person a year in UK, I wouldn't want their job for all the money in the world, a poisoned chalice. And I don't have any problem with people celebrating it as they want to, it's just not for me. I'd be quite happy to let it all pass by unnoticed, but neighbours and friends have invited us to their do's.The Olympic Torch passed within a few miles of me, and personally I wouldn't go down the back garden to see it, but I was amazed at the numbers that turned out when I saw it on TV.carrowcrin wrote:I am not a Royalist but I enjoy the pomp and ceremony.

Re: Are you doing anything for the Jubilee?
No, I am not really a royalist although the set-up seems to work for the UK. I have been to a few Trooping of the colours when we have been giving stand tickets and it's great seeing the Troops, listening to the marching bands etc. I don't think it's just about the Queen, it is celebrating an era and a bit of Britishness....for most people. I was in London last week and there was a feel good atmosphere everywhere, heatwave could have helped thoughcarrowcrin wrote:I am not a Royalist but I enjoy the pomp and ceremony.

In the same way Gibraltar are going for it big time, one shop is doing a bomb selling 5x3 foot flags. I think it's not about the Queen, celebrating their heritage.
