hubby wants a holiday!
Hope you guys can give me some inspiration/guidance. Hubby has decided after 6 years of living here he now wants to expand his horizons and have a "proper holiday"!
Where can we go? We have been to; (Long Haul) USA, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, also Lesbos in Greece, Cyprus, Gran Canaria, Portugal, Tunisia, Dublin, Amsterdam, Turkey. I personally don't want a long haul holiday and neither do either of us want a cultural holiday. Cruises do not float our boat (pardon the pun!). Neither of us want France or Germany either. I know you peeps like a challenge so we are looking forward to hearing your suggestions.................
TIA

All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.
Re: hubby wants a holiday!
Absolutely One of my favourites especially Ravello and Positano. Only from April to September though.
Wagner wrote his opera Parsifal in Ravello and you can see why he was so inspired.

Have a safari in Masai Mara, Kenya or a beach holiday in Zanzibar. Fantastic places, holiday of a lifetime.

Agree, loved Zanzibar but the OP said no long haul. Just realised they said no culture either so that rules out Ravello and probably the whole ofitalydorsetgirl wrote:Have a safari in Masai Mara, Kenya or a beach holiday in Zanzibar. Fantastic places, holiday of a lifetime.

Just to be really radical - how about Scotland, Wales, Ireland (apart from Dublin )....

We had a great time in Galicia earlier on this year, but maybe it would be too cold/wet now. I had a holiday in Malta a few years back, it was mid November and the weather was perfect.

Looks like Italy's a big ommission in your current portfolio.
Not long haul .... ooodles of culture ... great grub .... and if you speak in Spanish, they 'sort of' get the gist of what you're saying.
I see the lovely Amalfi has been nominated .... but Italy is so rich ... if you like walks, then the Dolomintes in the North East are spectacular.
Another approcach I've used and is useful if you want to see a lot and don't want to drive ..... base yourself in Bologna and as it's a main railway hub, Parma, Pisa, Rome, Florence, Milan, Venice are all achievable as day trips.
Regards,
Mike

St. Petersburg is a wonderful city, even if you don't want culture the Winter Palace is stunning. We need more info'. You don't say what time of the year you want to go
Lisbon is ok. and not too far away.

We stayed in Peschiera when we went to Lake Garda - it has a railway station and we used the trains for days out in Venice and Verona. Italy is wonderful.

You can spend, minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've happened - or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the f**k on.

We love it too, and the food. Wouldn't like to live there but great for holidaysIreneD wrote:We stayed in Peschiera when we went to Lake Garda - it has a railway station and we used the trains for days out in Venice and Verona. Italy is wonderful.

Re: hubby wants a holiday!
Well you have been busy.......thanks for all your suggestions. You have given us lots to think about. I hadn't thought of Italy, I suppose because of the cultural side (hubby hates sightseeing and prefers beach), but there are so many places to see, especially if we take the advice of Mike. M and base ourselves at Bologna. Yes, we do speak Spanish, so as has been suggested, we could make ourselves understood...an added bonus always.
We think we may like to go May/June time, wherever we finally decide.
The British weather puts us off Scotland, Ireland and Wales. We had a week in June in England and the weather was atrocious, as it has been all year, so wouldn't want to "waste" our holiday with bad weather. Been there, done that with Skeggie...twice!
Well, now to put your suggestions to hubby and see what he fancies...............will let you know the outcome.
Thanks again,
Mrs. Moo
