What do you hate.

What do you hate about Spain.
The question is often asked with a variety of answers, not more tha a dozen words please.
I hate dogs, they just crap and bark. (Anywhere)

So that's not something to hate about Spain, is it?

My pet hate: ex-pat Brits, who can't speak the language, grumbling about the 'lazy' Spanish. 8)

Ex-pat Brits who won't learn Spanish and slag off the UK for having too many immigrants, then failing to see the irony! :)

I did not get the dog problem in the UK and that's why it's my pet hate here. (if you will excuse the pun)

Lack of accountability in public services, some civil servants are allowed to make up the rules according to how they feel that day.

The cold in winter (living in Galera!) and having to light a fire every night! Wish we could have central heating here...... That's all

I moved over with my then preganant wife, and all the expats ignored us completely.

Every Spanish person we met bent over backwards to help us and make us feel welcome.

Why come over a moan about Spain??? If Englands so great why do people stay here??? To watch Sky TV in the sun and get drunk???

I find it very strange that so many of you go on about ex-pats, bit strong to deny and actually say you hate your heritage. After all you are all ex-pats yourself and reading an ex-pat site. What makes you think you are so superior to any other person that moves over here, just go somewhere else if they offend you so much. If you don't like Brits don't choose andalucia, its so simple.

Jules-Slowhand, are you stating an opinion on those of us who live in Southern Spain or what? What pollution?? Please be more specific.

Katy,

I wasn't having a go at all ex-pats in Spain. I was only referring to a particular type of ex-pat who might fit this description:-

Won't make any effort to learn any Spanish.
Looks down on the Spanish and Spain in general.
Won't mix with any Spanish people.
Moans about Spain.
Moans about the UK going to the dogs with too many immigrants.
Gets really p1ssed in public and exposes too much fat bare flesh even off the beach.

These sort of non-integrating ex-pats can and do cause a backlash from the Spanish who feel like they are being taken over in certain towns.

Anyway, hate is far too strong a word - I don't hate anybody!

I don't think that there are too many Brits integrating successfully. I think that a lot of Brits think that they are integrating because the bar owner or the store owner smiles at them but they aren't integrating really. I've known quite a few people that have deluded themselves. One woman stands out, she thinks that she is friends with everyone in the town where she lives, despite her not speaking a word of the lingo, but they laugh at her behind her back and they think she's vulgar, she thinks that she's posh and would probably post on forums saying how she hates English people who don't integrate. Ironic really

Katy I think your missing the point.

Im pround to be English AND I love living in Spain.

The expats thwy are refered to are the ones that come out with comments like "spains a third world country" and "things are so much better in England".

I hear that often.

The ones that will go into a local small shop and speak English to store worker assuming that everyone should speak english.

Yes, peter, I think these sort of comments have also been seen on A.com threads relating to power cuts, septic tank installation, gas bottles, water supply, telephone lines, and construction standards of property, especially in the campo. Fair comment in some cases.

assuming that everyone should speak english.
I agree with you on this one, the lack of Spanish amongst expats, and the lack of interest in learning is lamentable. Theres a thread on A.com recently with about 2 replies. 'Major' issues like 'new furniture store etc' would attract dozens.
