cost of MRI scan
cost of MRI scan
?can anyone tell me roughly what the cost of an MRI scan might be here? The friend concerned has no health insurance, private or state.
Re: cost of MRI scan
Less than 200€ I believe.
It is well worth having a MRI scan as it can show exactly what is the problem.
On separate occasions I have had a knee, shoulder and leg problem. Physio, pain killers no use. MRI scans showed exactly what the problems were and minor operations cured them.
Cheers

Re: cost of MRI scan
It might cost that much in the UK but a friend had one recently at Clinica Rincon for €150 including two sessions with the specialist.

Re: cost of MRI scan
You probably think of a CT scan. That is probably at least 1000 EUR I would guess.gavilan wrote:thanks gerryh ... that info was very helpful and a relief! ... i had thought it might cost 1000e or thereabouts!

A CT scan is under €300. All done in 15 minutes.

Probably varies depending on quality. I have seen prices above 7000 EUR.

Re: cost of MRI scan
Mine was done at the best clinic in Málaga and the scanner cost 2 million Euros. Of course it may have actually been a cheap Chinese model
Have you actually had a CT. scan in Spain?

Nope, but I know how much they might charge for one in the US if you don't have insurance.El Cid wrote: Have you actually had a CT. scan in Spain?

What on Earth has the cost in the US got to do with the cost in Spain?
We all know that the costs in the US are on another planet.

Re: cost of MRI scan
Irrelevant but you can get one in the USA for a few hundred dollars, very competitive. like all countries it depends on the clinic and how much consultation you get. They advertise a lot, similar in the UK. leaflet often have seen them for £350. Better when they are free
Re: cost of MRI scan
Because a CT scan is expensive and the technology is often offset by newer technology that is cheaper so it isn't always necessary for insurance to pay for it. If the equipment cost 2 million euro and they only use it for a thousand patients until it is revamped then the cost per patient is significantly higher than you paid.El Cid wrote:What on Earth has the cost in the US got to do with the cost in Spain?
Re: cost of MRI scan
Last year I had two MRIs and they were 130€ each. One was in Velez and one in Malaga (same company but different branches). The Malaga branch included the cost of sending the results directly to my Doctor to save me going back to collect them another day. They did a full report plus a DVD of the MRI each time.
Re: cost of MRI scan
I was going to ask a further question which was ... ?how long does it take to get the results? ... but the response from Wicksey suggests only a few days ... and I expect it would vary according to the clinic involved ...
Re: cost of MRI scan
Yes it was only a few days. At Velez I had it done on the Wednesday and collected the results on Friday.
Re: cost of MRI scan
thanks for that Wicksey ... helpful and reassuring ... thanks again

Re: cost of MRI scan
Perhaps someone can help me out with some information ,i will need a CT scan quite often and i wondered if i could get a scan in Spain the cost seems reasonable but treatment on NHS in uk , the reason being i have cancer and after treatment you get CT scan ,then just Xray ,which wont see if its spreading unlike CT scan ,any help appreciated .
Re: cost of MRI scan
CT scan often? I am not a doctor but that seems somehow counter productive against cancer as you get enough radiation in one CT scan to cause cancer.

Re: cost of MRI scan
It's a balancing act - risk v. info gained. I've lost count of how many CT & MRI scans I've had over the past 7 or 8 years - I know I was having both every 6 months (& sometimes every 3 months !), and on one occasion I was told "this is your 12th MRI" ! Thankfully, I'm now 5 years clear and on annual review
