You are welcome... :)

@ashtondav.... Really are you sure that they turned up at one of the entry points and got instant access? If so that's really interesting as I have had a lot of emails from people who have tried that and didn't get in and were turned away... Some thoughts here..

Finally but with some logistical problems, the reservation system is open...

I'm trying to find out why they are only giving permits to enter from the Ardales side and not from El chorro side... The nice people at the diputación of malage won't tell me over the phone.... Also It seems very odd that every weekend is fully booked within a few hours of the system opening... Methinks that something smells fishy here... Probably some of the businesses have managed to pre book even though I was specifically told by the diputación that this was impossible ... hmmmm

We did the walk last week. fantastic. Anyways I recall our guide saying that they were going to shut down the south entrance and only allow access from the north. Hence everybody is walking the same direction along the pathway.

I notice from the list of do's and dont's that hiking boots are advised.
Are they really necessary or will a good pair of trainers suffice?
I accept that flip flops, sandals or high heels wouldn't be suitable.

Hi Gerry, you don't need big old hiking boots.... Good walking shoes/tennis are fine... The two boardwalks are fairly level and the forest path inbetween them is a well made path... It's not like hiking in rugged mountain terrain..

Looks like all the places are filled now right up to the end of this year....

Thanks for the reply.
One other question, it mentions that there aren't any toilet facilities on the walk, are there facilities at the start or finish?
If there aren't I will have a problem.

casita-bonita, are the toilets at the start of the boardwalk bit or at the start of the forest path?

They are at either end of the walk next to the entrances, or should I now say entrance and exit. Of course there are also facilities at the nearby restaurants.

BTW there are 2 boardwalk sections and the country path joins them as the middle section.

There were also what looked like a toilet block about half way through the walk. But they were locked up and I assumed they were for the staff who have to hang around there all day.

Push comes to shove I'm sure you could find a convenient tree on the country path section :-)

Today my wife spotted a poster in a local travel agent offering coach trips on two Saturdays in October.

I was rather hoping there would be one before the boardwalk bit. Ah well, never mind, thanks for the info.

Did the walk today.
My mistake was to read the instructions on the official website as to how to get to the start.
If you look at the instructions and zoom in on the map it suggest approaching from the North, go through El Chorro and drive up the other side of the gorge to the North access point.
Totally wrong. The road doesn't appear to exist in reality.
You can get to the Northern access point from the North or, do as I eventually did, and park at the Southern end and catch the bus back to the Northern end.
The whole trip, from parking, catching the bus, walking to the Northern control pint, walking the walk and getting back to my car took just under four hours of fairly leisurely walking.
Well worth the trip. For those of you a bit dubious about the height of the walkways they are very solidly constructed and unless you look over the edge of the guard rail you won't realize how much of a drop is below you.
Besides for the duff access information on the website everything else seems very well organized and the staff are all friendly, helpful and speak good English.
Cheers

Glad you enjoyed it Gerry and thought it well organised and the staff friendly - have seen reports to the contrary about the organisation & staff. The official website has drawn much criticism too (by Spanish web standards it's not too bad I guess!). Just looking at it now, the maps are utterly confusing; I think the problem is they only show access to the southern entry point (El Chorro) - despite the fact it seems that it's now only possible to start from the northern entry point. Perhaps that's deliberate since there's more parking at El Chorro, but it would help when planning your trip (particularly for timing) if they explained this.
Off on our second visit end of this month and can't wait!

Hi Gerry,
Did you book your walk before or can we just turn up?
Visited the website https://reservas.caminitodelrey.info/?l=en today but all dates in October, November and December are greyed out. Does it mean they are fully booked?

Yes you have to prebook via the website.
As you noticed all slots for Oct-Dec are full.
You cannot just turn up, you will be refused entry.
However there are some hotels, restaurants, wine tasting tours who will get you a ticket as part of their package.
Cheers
