British Driving License - Ive got a fine
Re: British Driving License - Ive got a fine
Sid,
"Providing your UK licence is still valid, you will be covered to drive when you return as a visitor even if it is displaying an old address"
I am thinking the key word in this statement may be "visitor" as I think the OP said 7 years..
sorry I cannot offer any advise but I am interested, I hope it works out ok as a few dinero...

He said he had lived in Spain for 7 years, so if he went to the UK he would be a visitor.

Re: British Driving License - Ive got a fine
Whilst in my view it is correct that you were fined, I don't think you have been fined the correct amount. The offence you should have been charged with is 65.4.ll of the Ley sobre Tráfico, Circulación de Vehículos a Motor y Seguridad Vial which is a "grave" offence and is subject to a fine of €200.
"ll) Conducir un vehículo siendo titular de una autorización que carece de validez por no haber cumplido los requisitos administrativos exigidos reglamentariamente en España."
Whereas I think you have been fined under 65.5.k which is a "muy grave" offence and subject to a fine of €500
"Conducir un vehículo careciendo de la autorización administrativa correspondiente"
Funnily enough to this was addressed by N332.es yesterday http://n332.es/2016/03/10/questions-abo ... -answered/ and confirms my view.

On a side note, anybody renewed their licence at one of the official medical centres, rather than direct with Tráfico? Any idea what they charge (on top of the renewal fee) for their services? There's one at the bottom of my street - I could do with avoiding going to Málaga if possible.
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

Citizens advice, after intially supporting the N332 site have started to critize some of their posting as being legally wrong. If you want to fight the fine i would just contact CAB and they will tell you whether the fine is legal or not and will help you with appealing it.

It is very easy to renew at the medical centre and they make no extra charge apart from the medical. They take the photos (if you don't like the photo they will take another one) and do all the paperwork. Since you would have to go to the medical centre anyway, it would be a waste of time to make a second trip to Trafico. The new licence arrives within 2 weeks.Miro wrote:On a side note, anybody renewed their licence at one of the official medical centres, rather than direct with Tráfico? "El Cid"]No it's not. It changed a few years ago and it is 10 years up to 65 as I said.
Sorry to disagree Sid, but my last two Spanish licences have been for 5 years, my current one runs out in June 2017, and I am not 65 until April 2018.

Maybe fincalospinos you have something other than a car group, such as minibus or lorry on your licence? Periods are shorter for them.

As Peter said, it may be in your case that your licence came into the second category as above.

Re: British Driving License - Ive got a fine
I did say that the validity had recently changed. Your licence was issued in 2012, so it would have been under the old rules - hence 5 years, or maybe they got it wrong - it wouldn't be the first time!

Re: British Driving License - Ive got a fine
It's not really news. The Guardia has been behaving like this for years - making up the rules as they go along. There are countless cases of it happening. As most people on this forum agree, if you are resident in Spain, it makes sense to exchange your licence, if only to avoid this sort of situation.
