We are in the process of moving to Spain with our dog (GSD) and a cat. Can anyone recommend a pet insurance firm / cover for when settled in Spain or do people tend to "pay as you go" with vets?
Thanks in anticipation

Hi PavAmber,
If insurance is only for Vets fees then either find out how much it would be and put that aside monthly, or just PAYG. We find Vets fees very reasonable compared to what we pay in UK.

All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

I agree with Enrique. PAYG is fine. Charges in the UK are crazy. Here I have paid €15 for an ultrasound. Maximum of 30 for a long consultation, often only €15.

For third party - ie if someone wants to claim against your dog for damage (including outside the home) - check your house insurance. It is usually covered in some way - ask your provider for details. When you look at the small print of what is covered in specialist pet cover schemes most do not cover for routine vaccinations (rabies is obligatory in most of spain and others are very necessary), nor for preventative care like keeping ticks and fleas at bay, nor for medications, nor for routine examinations. One begins to wonder what they do cover!! Find a good vet and you will find that prices are not high in general.
