MRI scanner San Antonio hospital malaga

Postby JAKE M » Sun Nov 20, 2016 10:31 am

Hi Good people.I haven't been on here for a while and here I am asking for advice
Has anybody Had an mri scan at San Antonio Malaga? My problem is I have claustrophobia i.e. don't use lifts etc
So my question really is what type of scanner do they use for spinal column images? I had an mri (dreadful experience) in the UK
which was like a long cylinder(coffin) open at each end.
I have seen scanners like a giant polo mint which would be ideal. I have also had one done in a scanner shaped like a letter C which was open at one side which was much better.
Any info would be appreciated.

Hi ajtg1952. San Antonio hospital is down on the coastal road between Pedregalejo and Malaga. I haven't used it yet but will be soon.

'Er indoors had an op there - don't know about their scanner but the rooms and staff were excellent. Of course the medical care depends on who your surgeon is.
On thing to be aware of is that there is no on-site parking, and you could circle the streets to find a roadside spot within a mile. I seriously recommend using public transport or park where you can and take a taxi. In the summer it becomes even worse.

re MRI scanner....It is not pleasant, but just has to be endured. The one like a polo mint is the CAT scan, no problem with that.

Thanks for your input people.
I found this Resonancia Magnetica Abierta (open) in Alhaurine el Grande (1.5 hours from Cutar). My insurance doesn't cover this hospital but it is only €170 for the scan. Which is a snip, since I would rather ride on a mule to Madrid on a saddle made of cactus spikes than endure the closed scanner again! I'm having the scan tomorrow.
I'll let you know the outcome.

Just to let you know that I had the MRI scan in the "open" scanner at Clinica Guadalhorce in Alhaurin el Grande. I felt like a hamburger as the scanner was shaped like a burger roll and I was the burger. I'm only 5ft 8" but my legs were partially outside at one end and more importantly my head was partly outside at the other. After a tantrum from me and cajoling from the nurse and my wife-job done. Better imo than the smartie tube scanner. If need be, I would use this in preference.

They have an "open" MRI scanner at Clinica Rincon in Rincon de la Victoria.
Clinica Rincon at the football stadium in Malaga has a closed in tube scanner.
Don't know about the other Clinica Rincon places.
Cheers
