I once nearly dropped the gato on the gato....and I love the fact that "espero" means "I wait", or "I hope" or "I expect" - translate "I wait for the bus and hope it comes but expect it to be late"

Spanish pronunciation is easy once you learn it, as everything follows rules, very unlike English.
I ment the spelling of it. Its spelt with a j which basically to us is a guteral h. If it were pronouced nerka then it would be spelt with a Q as to us thats pronunced like a K ie antequera
J is jota or pronounced hota to us in the alphabet. Coolio church that famous spanish rapper! Jaime, javier, jose ect they dont pronounce those with a k so why people feel the need to say nerka or even vieka instead of vieja

It's in Cheshire, nearish to where I lived before moving to Spain.
Usually pronounced as Chumley.
If you want to confuse a Spaniard, or an English person, ask them to pronounce
Ynysddu which isn't far from where I was born in Llanfrechfa.
Cheers

Leicester is hard enough for most people. Or nearby Loughborough.
Esperar is a particular bug-bear of mine. I hope to see you tomorrow. I'll wait to see you tomorrow. I damned well expect to see you tomorrow! - but in Spanish, I'm at a complete loss as to how to differentiate.

Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

Phrasal verbs are complicated too. for us due to the lack of a direct translation and for foreigners, simply because they are illogical. How do you say 'to give up something' in Spanish? It certainly isn't 'dar ariba algo'

That's an alternative way of saying it in English. I mean we can't directly translate it from English to Spanish word for word.

I often hear Nerja pronounced as Ner jar ! pronunciations are not alway easy I have to admit. Some of the Welsh names are - to me at least - unpronounceable. Pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch!

Re: Andalucia or Andalusia?
Most of the Spanish here pronounce Nerja more like ner ha rather than ner ka.
Re: Andalucia or Andalusia?
I say Neer ha. A hard h so to speak. I do not think I have heard a Spaniard pronounce it as if is a k
