Advice please

Postby ginaharris » Mon Mar 20, 2017 3:17 am

I lived in Torremolinos as a child - my parents built/bought a house in the late 1950's - I can't seem to attach photo of house.
In 1962 my mother brought my sister and me back to Australia - my father stayed in Spain.

In approx. 1963 my mother received a phone call to say that my father had died.............our family have never been given more information or received a death certificate. I have contacted the Australian Embassy in Spain and they say they do not keep records of citizens who die in Spain. I have tried contacting various sources to get information but have not found anything.

My father's name was Geoffrey Harris

I do not know where to start!......I would like to know what happened to this house (does it still exist) and what happened to my father? I am planning on visiting the region soon but would like to make a start.

I was hoping someone on this forum could help me with my search.

Hi,
Upload Photo.........click on Thumbnail for forums (blue box on right then says Copied) and paste link on your post

Image

Another way if the Photo size is in spec..........use the Full Editor option on this Forum and Attachment, if you get an error then use postimg.

From the Admin Post.........
"The facility to Upload photos has been added for a trial period. This can be done via an "Attachment" tab below the post creation box. There is a maximum file size of photo set to 400kB. Please do no upload photos of widths greater than 800 pixels."

Do you have the address of the property? I could try to check it out if you have any further details.

Yes, we can see it. Certainly don't recognise it, but an awful lot has changed here since then! Anything else to go on?

Thank you Miro - I am a travel agent and have visited Spain every year for the past 10 years but have always been anxious/nervous about going to Torremolinos - I know is has changed a lot. I would really like to find out what happened all those years ago!....as a child back in Australia I would imagine all sorts of things!

Here are some more old photos of Torrie - maybe something will jog your memory!

Also have a look at this site http://memories-of-torremolinos.blogspot.com.es/ and maybe drop a line to Alfredo. He grew up here, although he wasn't even born in 1963! But you never know, he might recognise the house or be able to help more.

If he was living alone when he died the house was probably empty for years and then sold by the Government, but there is a good chance that it is still there, Good Luck with your quest..

It looks quite rural, but I guess it probably isn't anymore ;-)

Maybe the local Parish Churches will have burial records?

I would think that if the bills went unpaid for years then the Ayuntamiento would have embargoed the property. In those days it was so crooked in Spain someone in power would take the property over for themselves.

On a lighter not I love the old photos.
