Goa Town, Indian restaurant

Postby gerryh » Sun Apr 02, 2017 5:15 pm

Noticed a new Indian restaurant called Goa Town has opened in Nerja.
Seems to have some different dishes than the usual Indian dishes.
Anybody been there yet?
Any good?
Cheers

Yes, that's the address. It's in what was a private house at the Balcon end of Calle Carabeo.
I didn't post the address with my question because if someone had been there they would know where it was.
We shall probably go there on Maundy Thursday after watching the Easter procession.

How good, or not, is an Indian restaurant if very much down to personal taste.
However lately we have been very happy with the Taj Mahal in Torre del Mar.

Buddha House or Taste of India or Jaipur. Buddha usually wins as I can park free :)

It's been a while since we went to Buddha House but always had a good meal there.
Been to the Jaipur once and was slightly disappointed, perhaps they or us were having an off day.
Haven't tried the Taste of India yet.

Have to say that we have never had a bad meal at the Jaipur, and it is still our favourite. Also like the Buddha house though, bonus that it is a bit closer to home.

Will be giving this new place a try out sometime soon.

Where is the one in torre? Would like to occasionally turn right at the coast instead of left for an Indian fix.

Bob

Funny, just been past there myself today and noticed it. It was open but no-one in it. Taste of India in Nerja is our favourite too, although I do seem to be able to churn out a reasonable Indian myself with the help of Pataks and some home-made bhajis, so we don't often buy one out these days.

We once to the Torre Taj for the Sunday buffet and it was excellent. So we returned there one day midweek for their menu del dia and it was very disappointing. It didn't seem to be the same food at all compared to what we had eaten on that Sunday. Maybe it was chef's day off :)

My wife and I went last Friday to Goa Town Nerja. Opened and run by two Indian brothers from Marbella, one front of house the other the Chef. Chef was a builder and constructed the building on the site of a demolished house on Carabeo.
Food was very good - we had our usual favourites which we could compare with other places and I must say, particularly for Spain, they were well cooked and "authentic" .
Cost reasonable at €52 inc side dishes and 2 drinks.
Only about 10 tables so probably best to book.

A bit expensive for us then

We've just had 2 good freshly made pizzas and 2 drinks next door to The Goa at Little Italy for the grand total of 9€ We tend to have the menu de dia at an Indian, or a takeaway which usually comes to less than 30€.

Tried it last night and have to say that we will continue turning left for an indian when we get to the coast. Very disappointing.

Goa next, although 52 euros sound a tad expensive for two people, but what was ordered wasn't listed. Normally our Indian meal comes in at low to mid 30s for a couple of mains, vege side, nan, a beer and a water.

Taj Mahal in Venta Baja (Puente Don Manuel) is IMHO way better than the Torre del Mar one - Ali and family do a great job.

Agree Peter Venta Baja always delivers, but will give Goa in Nerja a try in the next week or two now that we are back living in Spain.
