?do physalis fruit keep well?

Postby gavilan » Tue Jun 20, 2017 11:50 am

I planted several small physalis bushes last year and they are now bearing lots of fruit ... I go to see family in UK in 2 weeks time ... I would like to take some to them but I dont know how long these fruits keep for (very bad grammar but you know what I mean!) ... can anyone tell me?

Hi gavilan,
Having watched some amusing "green" videos where you need an old hay loft, recycled insulation and bamboo with a temperature of 1-2 degrees, I think this is a better way to go...........

"Allow the ground cherries to remain in the husk, unrefrigerated, until you're ready to use the fruit. When left in the husk and stored in a cool, well-ventilated room, ground cherries become sweeter and last for up to six months."

When we bought some way above ground cherries back recently , dished them out to family and told then to eat up, so no long term storage required............... :D
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Where did you get your plants from Gavilan. I'm always looking for new plants. Also have you tried taking cuttings.

Will wait to buy them after October as they will have a better chance at surviving.
