The media (mostly pro EU) have been busy reporting how strong the two main countries are now that Macron is managing France and is in bed with Merkel.

I personally still see the Eu as very divided. One area is over migration. It won't be anything but divided until it has one leader, one set of rules and taxes and so on. Germany , I think, recently signalled it was in favour of more of that. I also do not see anything fundamental has changed over the huge divide between the prosperous North and the poorer South- just can kicking down the road.

I 'm quite happy to agree that the EU is divided but surely that is to be expected in any political entity. What Brexit and Trump have shown though, is that with little bit of populism you can do more than divide individual countries. They and their parties have managed to polarize them as well.
Both of May and Trump are constantly at it, On the one hand saying they want to unite the countries while using rhetoric and introducing policies that split them apart.

That's the tactic: whip up anxiety, division and fear, create bogeys and scapegoats, and then present yourself as the nation's saviour. It's the psychology of control and megalomania. Most of the dictators from history deployed exactly the same strategy.

Don't fall for it.

Well, unless it happens, whole generations of youth in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, will be unemployed.

Maybe that will be the normal. Sad perhaps, but true, unless the whole thing unravels, and countries are able to set their own exchange rates. Will be interesting to see how the political class keep it all together.

One size certainly does not fit all. Bring on the revolutions !

Further to the above, as it were....

Little snippet from today's Telegraph.

"85,000 apply for 30 bank jobs in Italy"

Seems they are junior jobs, but youth unemployment close to 40%, and the high level of interest was a reflection of the state of the economy.
