You will also need a less than 3 month old certificate that confirms you are on the Padron with your local town hall.
This is needed for the vehicle tax.

The tax is not payable until some time next year, as it is paid by whoever owns the car on the 1st January. Rates of IVTM can vary in each municipality, as does the date by which it is payable.

The road tax also has to have been paid up to date before you can transfer ownership .

When you go to Trafico to do the transfer they will check that IVTM has been paid, ITV is up to date, and that any outstanding fines and/or debts have been paid.

Correct but they still need to know which padron the new owner is on so that the next years bill can be sent to them.
I've always been asked for the certificate when ether I have had a car re registered into my name.

No Gerry, you do not need to be on the Padron. Non residents can buy a car. What they have to produce is an NIE and in the absence of the Padron, proof of where they live such as a utility bill in their name. A copy of the passport and NIE will be required.

My neighbour has just bought a s/h car as a nonresident and this is all that was required.

As I've said I've always been asked, in the 8 vehicles I have had registered in my name, for proof that I was on the Padron.
Not a problem for me as I have always been on some town hall's Padron.

A Padron certificate is just one of a number of acceptable proofs of where you actually live. I used mine recently when I bought a new car.

This may not be possible at all and also i am not sure what a pardon is?
I am not a resident and it is unlikely i ever will be but we never know.
My situation is i have an NIE, i own a house and i pay the year tax and
basura etc.
I think a pardon means that property payments are up to date but not sure.
I also do not have a Spanish driving licence which is something since my
last post, do i need a Spanish licence to insure a car in Spain?

The car will likely currently be taxed as on the road until about 8 weeks ago.
I want to do this but only if its easy..
The idea being buy, do it up and likely bring on a tour of Europe.
Silly idea yes but be fun if it works.

I wrote this earlier but must have hit wrong button so some of the questions
have already being answered (ie i do not need pardon)
Will i need a Spanish driving licence?

many thanks for helpful replies.
if its there i will likely own "a banger" by weekend.

I appreciate that English is not your first language, but it is "PADRON" not 'pardon'

Mistakes are what makes us human. Peter's post doesn't make sense unless instead of 'English' he wanted to say 'Spanish'.
Good to know Peter is a mere mortal as well

I hope it's less than 500 euro (unless it's a mint GT). Any more and you are in the realm of "any cheap older car". Not really a bargain. My 2001 Megane coupé was only 600 from a garage in Marbella, with belt done, new tyres and 1 week old itv....

I have agreed to buy subject to one little thing so i expect to be the owner of a 26 year old banger soon.
Since i will not be using this for a few months i appreciate any advise.
Can i declare it off the road until this time?
Also a guy in the bar said that this car is exempt from the test (IV?)

any advise appreciated.

Hi,

"Also a guy in the bar said that this car is exempt from the test (IV?)"........I bet he thinks he's Elvis too........ :)

After 10 years once a year.........

https://www.veiasa.es/itv/cuando_pasar_la_itv

PS: ITV........ Inspección Técnica de Vehículos

Some light reading...........

http://www.velascolawyers.com/en/motor- ... spain.html

Final word.......
Don't buy it unless it has a recent current ITV.
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Enrique
Thanks for info as there is good information in the English lawyer piece.

The car has a current ITV as the sticker is on the window.
The bar guy was saying something like that because the car was so old it did not not need to have something.
Is there something that it can be exempt from because of age?
He was saying something in my second language so i thought it may be this.

BTW why is it so important to have a recent/current ITV, is it important not to let it lapse?
I thought it was just getting an appointment and car can be tested anytime?
Its not really that important but i completely trust these people but its nice to have
A.com to clarify.

Yes he is Elvis, lookin good with a beard.
