You are right. Windows updates are a complete joke. I suggested to a friend that he should replace his ageing Windows laptop. He bought a brand new HP direct from their store. I set it up for him. When I fired it up it took 3 hours to download the latest updates. When I had set it up, three days later I took it round to him and the first thing it did was spend another 30 minutes updating again.

When Apple releases a new OS every year or so (and it's free) it might take 30 minutes to update. In between the major updates there may be three or four minor updates which take a few minutes. Also, all the updates are optional. Try turning off Windows updates - with the latest W10 release it is almost impossible.

I couldn't agree with you more Sid.....Everything Windows is a Drama and a waiting game. A friend came round a few weeks back with his Lenovo Win 10 machine (9 months old) it took about 3-4 minutes just to boot up ...... insane......even my old back up 5 yr old Macbook Air still only takes about 20 seconds to boot.

If you don't like Windows you can save yourself a small fortune by not buying a Mac and use Linux on your machine.

I am happy to spend the money on a decent PC and there is no way I would consider Linux.

I presume you have never used an Apple PC Gerry.

As firsttango says, booting a Windows machine takes ages - my old Windows PC took at least 4 minutes. My iMac will boot with 5 apps running in 11 seconds.

Yes you could run Linux, but that is above most peoples paygrades and you just cant walk into Wortens or similar and pick one up which is how the majority buy their Computer...doubt you could even buy one on Amazon u.k either ....the average person simply wants a machine that Works out of the box with no faffing about and imo that is a Mac whether it be a iMac or a Macbook they are a joy to use and in both design, build and quality of end user experience are streets ahead of a Windows PC

I finally managed to update to Windows 10 to version 1703 15063.540 manually by using windows 10 update assistant. It took quite some time but I was eventually updated. I lost my Epson Printer but just plugged the USB plug in and it found it again. Just removed the USB and the Printer worked by wireless again. Everything seems to be working as normal..

Here is the link.

That's exactly what you need to do with Window 10. Keep it clean of bloaty.software and only install what you need.
The problems start if you try to use it as an old style Windows PC. Plug in and play along with apps help it perform much better than the old style programs.
