Re: banger
I would assume having a recent ITV would be the same as makiing sure a car has a recent MOT. Basically to make sure that there are no hidden suprises that will end up costing a fortune to put right..

Hi,
It may have an ITV sticker.....check which month has the notch, that's when it runs out.

You can apply for Historic plates, which I understand means you are exempt from road tax and/or ITV, but there may be an annual mileage restriction. It is really a concession to classic vehicles rather than making it possible to keep old junk on the roads polluting everywhere.

Re: banger
unlikely to apply for this as i likely take it out of Spain, how many years does the car need to be?

Re: banger
If the ITV runs out, you cannot drive the car unless you are driving it directly to the ITV centre where you have made an appointment.wollie wrote:
BTW why is it so important to have a recent/current ITV, is it important not to let it lapse?
I thought it was just getting an appointment and car can be tested anytime?

Hi,
To qualify for H plate
1) has to be 25 years old or over
2)has to be on a list of approved vehicles
3) has to be of special interest

Re: banger
It would be madness to try and get it classified as a classic car.
This tells you how to do. Read it and I am sure it will convince you not to.

If you think about it, what would be the point of that?
I would say be careful of people telling you it's fine to break the law because the risks of getting caught and fined are the same as your home country.
I gave my son my old car and even though I cover all the costs, the only responsiblity he has is to get the ITV each year.
If he does'n't, I take away the keys until he does.

Markwilding,
What i meant is if say a car is off the road for a period it can be presented at any time for inspection. Say for example a car off road for 6 months is the new test a year on from the date tested or is it backdated to fill the missing months? My comment earlier was really more of a question than a statement.
Sid,
Your right the classic thing is a complete no-brainer but i was not thinking that way but will always consider different options..
Thanks

Hi,
Test date will be when you take it in to ITV station and get a Pass. no backdating.

Re: banger
I have never had to make an appointment to do an ITV. I just turn up and pay, get in line, wait for my sticker etc. and the whole process is completed in around 30 minutes.

That's because you don't live in Andalucia. Here the company which does the ITVs insist on reservations.

Re: banger
It's highly organised and efficient here now (Algarobbo, anyway) and available something like 0700-2030h.
I like the idea of night-time testing.
Without an appointment, you hang about. With one, in and out quickly.

Hi,
A brief heads up on what to expect on your first ITV...........
Find out where your nearest Test Centre is...........
https://www.veiasa.es/itv/red_de_estaciones
Book on-line............
http://www.itvcita.es
Find out how much its going to cost............not sure if they take cards as I always pay in Cash
https://www.veiasa.es/itv/tarifas
Turn up before the allotted time and Use the Book in Machine to register you have arrived.
Look out for your Registration number to appear above the Pay desk
Once completed wait for your Registration number to be announced or appear on the Order of test board.
Proceed to the Line indicated
Unlike UK MOT you will be required to drive the vehicle through the test and operate various switches and pedals as requested by the tester.
The last part of the test is over a pit, you will have a crackly two way radio to listen for commands while the vehicle is jiggled about and the underside is inspected.
Drive out and await the result...........
