One point about multiple outlets from one unit - if there is a problem you end up with no aircon! Family have an apartment near us and the day granddaughter, husband and kids arrived for 18 day stay - Pop! - the aircon failed. It took until the day after they left to get technicians and parts there and bring the cool back!
Luckily it was under warranty or the bill would have been over 800€ because it was a large semi-industrial unit, piped all round the flat.

haha Benidorm ... brilliant piece about your Spanish friends!

I do like the idea of the 2+1 especially if we could have the outdoor unit on the other side of the house from our bedroom, which could then feed the living room on that side of the house, and our bedroom with perhaps a smaller unit. We don't intend to have it on all the time or all night long, but there may be odd occasions when we may so the noise would be less that way. I would hope with a brand new system it wouldn't break down and we probably wouldn't have the 2 units on at once anyway. It was the thought of possibly having to have 2 outdoor units that made us think perhaps we could just have one. I will start doing some research into local suppliers!

" I would hope with a brand new system it wouldn't break down"
The one I mention above was only 18 months old....just 6 months warranty left.

Dear dear .... Benidorm, you do keep us amused.
TDA - totally agree with your post!
Wicksey - get a couple of different local specialists in to give you a quote - it sounds like with the configuration of your little house, it is not going to be a quick fix and you need advice as to how best go about it. The one you choose will also be invaluable in getting it fitted with all the pipes, wires and holes in walls etc. Get it done quick as we will be into autumn soon (I hope - though I remember being in the 30-35ºC range up to mid October last year!). Of course, you may also find it useful for heating in the winter - which is something else you need to ask the experts about ...

Thanks for all your input.

Heating shouldn't be a problem as we have an excellent woodburner in the living room for very cold nights and recently bought new electric heaters for less cold nights. Must say we've never needed heating in the bedroom as we prefer it to be cooler, and we have nice thick duvets if we need them (we managed with 4.5 togs last winter plus an additional bedspread .... do they still call them that?? .... just a large cover over the bed).
