This is terrible for anyone that has booked holiday packages, i am traveling next week and all ok i think.
It must be getting very difficult to recruit pilots, i have noticed in the last year that the Ryanair landings are not as good as other airlines i travel with, some of the pilots give it a right wallop when the land. Has anyone else noticed this?

Thats got nothing to do with the quality of the pilot. Thats compensating for the weather.

Where I worked Boeing (Therefore Ryanair) taught pilots to make "Positive Ground Contact" it makes sure it stays on the ground and things that are switched by being on the ground, such as Spoilers, Autobrakes, Reverse Thrust work first time. A smooth landing is not necessarily a good thing.
If the overhead bins open it is possibly a bit too firm :D

I just realized when reading replies this off the original thread.

I take 20+ short flights every year with different carriers, all us small boing aircraft.
For the last about 6 months or so i have noticed on some not all the Ryanair planes
come down quicker and land with a bounce, it may be a fuel saving thing but it has
happened on at least 5/6 times.
I put it down to the pilots but i am not bothered as landing very safe.
It is most certainly not the weather as i was there.

Back to the original subject.

It is a real shame that Ryanair have decided, so, late in the day, to make such a large number of cancellations.

Trust me it is weather related. When its red hot and you land at Malaga from over the mountains (not over the sea) it can bounce all over the place for the last ten minutes of the flight. Hot air, thermals, wind is all a factor.

Mijasdavid...I was thinking exactly the same as you have reported in your post...Funny how Easyjet / Jet2 etc are not cancelling flights because of staffing problems, perhaps they pay their staff more and have better working conditions. After all those dirt cheap airline tickets arn't cheap for nothing! I recall someone saying on another thread that with Ryanair you pay for what you get! in this case it looks like some people will have payed for nothing..

I think you are right Pamela1, you do get what you pay for.

I know it is not weather and for me its inexperienced pilots, i trust my own judgement and experience as it happened a number of times and only Ryanair. The person that said they noticed planes coming down quicker is the more likely explaination for me.

Back to topic, they have said today that they screwed up on allocating holidays for the pilots, a spokesperson said on radio today.

Sorry but have to say that is utter nonsense......inexperienced pilots....yeah sure......definitely weather conditions cause this kind of landing, what a passenger see's from the cabin differs vastly from what a pilot see's right in front of him and on all his dials and displays.

On the news tonight. Family on holiday received a text saying their return flight to Newcastle has been cancelled. The next one is not until Thursday.
Ryanair spokesperson said that they would pay for folk to take another airline. But I am not sure if folk know this. They cannot get through to Ryanair and the live chat is down

Maureen, it's a disgrace that passengers are being treated this way, i've heard of flights being canceled due to UNFORERSEEN problems beyond the control of the airlines..eg weather conditions / strikes etc but surely this is a case of bad management and the fact that they say they are struggling with a backlog of staff holidays is not exactly unforeseen..
I realLy wouldn't bother wasting any time trying to get through to them, id go to the airport as planned and speak to them directly, if they couldn't arrange for me to get back either with their own airline then i'd ask that they try to get me back with another one, failing that i'd suggest that they pay for a hotel/food etc until they could get me home..Not all stranded passengers will be traveling back home with a pocket full of money and i know of many friends who do not like taking their bank cards with them.. What a mess! Most people who were due to travel to Spain over the next few months were worried about the airport strikes but i doubt no one envisaged this latest scenario..
