Mince Pies

Postby Paddy Pumpkin » Thu Nov 09, 2017 5:38 pm

Has anyone seen any for sale? Preferably somewhere between Torremolinos and Almunecar. Or is there a place I can rely on that will stock them in the next few weeks?

I second Dunnes mince pies but not sure when they'll start to stock them. There's English shops such as Arkwrights in Vinuela area, Russells in Torrox Costa and another English food shop in C/Los Huertos in Nerja that will stock them but not sure when. I also saw an ad for the Phoenix Club's Christmas fayre on 6 Dec in La Vega Bar in Torre de Mar that is taking orders for Christmas cakes and mince pies plus they are selling all sorts of other home made cakes. Google may give you phone numbers so you can phone and ask for more info. And of course there's Iceland as already mentioned in Fuengirola.

Iceland in Fuengirola will stock them for sure. I guess that is your nearest stockist.

Just another thought, What about the Irish poundland (can’t think of name) near the train station in Torremolinos. They seem to stock everything these days.

But does say he wants to buy them in Torremolinos or Almunecar. I’ve managed to buy them in Carrefour in their international section.

Lidl are advertising mince pies in UK at the moment - don't know if they might stock them in the more 'Brit' areas ?

And have you considered making your own ?

Not so difficult, very tasty and free from the preservatives added to store purchased mince pies.
You can buy the jars of 'mincemeat', but it is quite easy to produce at home....plenty of recipes available online , but if you need a recipe, let me know.
And Remember Mince pies are Not just for Christmas.... :D
We eat them all-year-round.....yum yum

Gordon...

We actively considered it...but we need about 100. Which would mean at least a whole day cooking in our oven

Up to now I've never seen them in Lidl and Nerja is pretty British. They have 'English' weeks from time to time when they have pickles and a few other bits and pieces, but never seen seen much of a range of things at Christmas such as mince pies, Xmas pud etc unfortunately. I usually have a stollen in lieu of Christmas cake, or some panettone (or both  ).

Paddy, if you need 100 you may need to order some in advance if you wanted to try the smaller English shops as they may not have huge stocks.

Gordon the Pie-man answered.....

But they don't take that long to bake and think of the benefits ...a warm kitchen-- tasty 'melt in your mouth' mince pies- -A Festive feeling in your house...and you could even wear paper hats and drink sherry. :D

And also like Wicksey, we eat stollen and pannetone...however we eat Christmas cake ( home made)...as well...

Gordon

Lidls have award winning mince pies and Christmas puds. Ask them to get them for you eg click and collect. Blind tastings of 'knowledgeable types' have picked them out year after year

I've never seen them here. We only get stollen and panettone and the spiced German biscuits in Lidl at Xmas.
