paperwork for a car
We have just purchased a car from a garage in spain, and we have been waiting from Aug 17th for the paper work to come through-log book etc..
as,it is now the 26th Oct i was wondering how long legally you can drive without the paperwork for the car?
do you have a time limit,or is it just when it arrives?

car papers
the provisional document they give you has a time limit on it, when it expires ask for another one
We bought a car in June 2004 but still didn't have the paperwork when we left the country in the October. In the end we had to contact our assoria here who actually sent one of her staff along to the gestoria in Malaga (that was supposed to be dealing with it), obtained it and sent it on to us in the November. I'm pretty sure that the temporary certificate had expired by then too. But then that's Spain for you .................. You get there in the end!

We bought our car in March and had to go back to the garage every 60 days for a new temporary document. we finally got the paper work at the end of august.

I know the reply will be 'this is Spain....' but there is absolutely no need for it to take so long. Just bureaucracy for its own sake and 'jobs for the boys'. IMHO of course.
It took us the best part of a year to get our car matricuated; I have now been waiting over a month for my Spanish driving licence; the scooter we bought in Almeria province had an extra layer of paperwork because we lived in Granada Province....
It is one of the few things about Spain that winds me up no end.. That and law enforcement bodies not knowing the law.

I have just bought a brand new scooter, the garage arranged everything
including the 350 euros insurance for it for the year(gulp...pricey i know)
and low and behold approx 3 weeks later all the ownership documents etc came through for it..so i suppose i was lucky there.!
As for the law enforcements, the trafico say one thing, the local policia tell you something else..so who do you believe??
Think i would go with the policia-they would be more likely to stop you on the roads than someone from the trafico!!

theres about 20 different sectors of the guardia civil.
next time you go thru gib customs in a car, look at the guardia there, they are guardia civil aduana. the ones on the motorways are guardia civil traffico, then you have guardia civil proteccion, not sure what they do, and guardia civil s.e.p.e who deal with animals...
i'm sure beachcomber will be able to give you a more complete list
