3 keys not functioning when trying to log in

I know that someone knows the answer to this. A friend has a laptop and when starting up and trying to enter his password including the letter C the computer failed to register any C at all. He says that 2 other letters are not working.

I am sure that I had the same problem some time ago but cannot remember what I did to free up. Maybe I hit CTRL plus an F key.

Any ideas ? I don't think that it is a physical problem with the keys affected like sticking or not contacting.

Of course without being able to insert the Password he cannot run the 'puter.
Or can he by some other Log In ?

If the 'Numbers Lock' has been accidentally pressed, it messes up my keyboard!

Is there a numbers lock on a laptop? I wasn't aware of that.

We had an Advent laptop come back from repair and several keys wouldn't work. Had to google it on another pc and it was the num lock that had been pressed.

friend tried Number Lock but made no difference so still has keys X C V 'locked' and not responding when attempting Log On with Password !
Is putting 'puter into safe mode going to be of any help ?
Other ideas ?

It'll be crumbs down under the keys. Vaccum, vigourous clean and I bet the letters come back.

Always happening to me when I'm on the lappy...........usually because OH has been munching on digestives whilst googling for frocks or scent
