Fuengirola - Port

Fuengirola port is a hive of activity all year round and it offers a full range of facilities to the public. It is also a very popular area for outdoor café culture and has excellent terrace restaurants incorporating bars offering an interesting night life. The port is currently a high priority topic with local authorities who plan to turn it into the largest port of its kind in Europe in the not-too-distant future.

The port is split into two distinct areas; one is the traditional fishing port where local fishermen bring in fresh fish every day for the local market. It is very interesting to take an early morning or late afternoon stroll alongside the working fishing boats to see the morning catch or watch the fishermen mending their nets by hand. On the distant horizon at night, they can also be spotted, fishing by floodlight till dawn.

The other side of the port is a sports and leisure marina, with over 225 berths (lengths ranging from eight to 20 metres). The facilities are all you would expect from a 21st century marina, with all modern conveniences at each berth. On dry dock there is a crane facility on hand for boats up to 6 tonnes and a lift service for those up to 35 tonnes. From the busy, modern marina area there are many companies offering pleasure trips, boat charters, fishing trips (including excellent tuna fishing) and speed boat hire. One of the attractions once out of the port area is seeing the dolphins swim alongside the boat.

The Fuengirola port and its Club Nautico (Yacht Club) is frequented by some of Europe's keenest sailors and for those interested in learning, the level of instruction is considered one of the highest on the Mediterranean. As well as sailing, there is a full range of water sports locally, including, scuba diving, water skiing, jet skis and much more, including:

Glass Bottom Boat Trips

Two of the most popular options are the trip in the boat with the glass bottom, giving you full view of the dolphins and other very interesting sea life from the safety of the leisure boat. As with most well appointed marinas, the port attracts many observers as well as those active on boats or enjoying water sports. There are many excellent bars, restaurants and clubs where are open the year round and offer a wonderful setting for lunch, 'tapas', dinner, cocktails or after dark clubbing. Dinner on one of the restaurants' outside terraces with views out across the moored boats onto the horizon of the Mediterranean towards North Africa is a delightful experience.
