Shiatsu Massage is an
ancient Japanese pressure massage, where the practitioner uses fingers,
hands, feet, elbows and knees to stretch out your body in order
to release energy and create wellbeing.
Traditionally Chinese and later more firmly established
as Japanese, the shiatsu massage is based on balancing the energy
(chi) in the body by applying pressure the release areas of blockage.
Over the past decade or so, with an ever more Cosmopolitan
resident population living in Andalucia, this type of treatment
has become very popular. There are holistic centres and health clinics
offering this type of massage in many places along the Costa del
Sol, especially in the larger towns, such as Marbella, Fuengirola,
Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Nerja. In most of these places, it
will be easy to find English speaking practitioners, who will range
in nationality from British, Danish, Swedish, German and Spanish.
The city of Málaga now has a lot to offer and in the Historic
Centre, there is a most wonderful Hammam (ancient steam baths) very
beautiful restored and offering shiatsu as well as many other specialist
massages. The Hammam is right beside the famous Picasso Museum.
Shiatsu is a wonderful way to stretch out your body
and release stress and tension. Amongst other things, it also helps
with the following conditions: Back pain, asthma, insomnia, depression,
anxiety and rheumatism. It also helps to boost the body's immune
system.
The practitioner will ask about your medical history
and how you feel generally. He/she will then place hands on your
back and abdomen to check for energy blocks in your body. The treatment
will take at least an hour and will release toxins by opening the
body's channels of energy. You will be stretched out on a mat and
the practitioner will ask you to relax while he/she places pressure
of parts of your body with his/her hands, elbows, knees and even
feet. You may experience some minor reactions after treatment, such
as a slight headache, but this is considered to be the toxins being
released as a result of the massage. The ultimate benefits are a
feeling of wellbeing and balance in the body. You number of sessions
you require will depend on the condition you wish to have treated.
