Patients with high blood pressure will find help managing this chronic condition at their local public health clinic. In order to ensure standardised, quality care across our region, doctors have a specific protocol to follow for anyone with a blood pressure reading of 140/90 mmHg, which is determined by taking readings three times during a minimum period of one week.
As always, everything begins with your family doctor, who makes the initial diagnosis and then gives you the paperwork necessary for state-subsidised medications and for any special tests, education sessions or specialist visits you might need.
Once a year patients with high blood pressure are supposed to have routine blood tests that check glucose levels and kidney function among other things.
