Routes on the grounds and Nature’s Classroom.
The exceptional natural environment of the Cortijo de las Piletas and the lifestyle of a traditional agricultural country house, allow our guests to experience and authentic and unique Andalusian “cortijo”, or country estate. We will offer routes of interest within our Cortijo grounds with informational cards – and binoculars – for identifying footprints, songs, flights, nests, dens, protected species, medicinal plants, etc. Our interest is in making accessible all of the ecological wealth of the environment in a didactic and practical manner, with special attention to the significant ornithological variety. In our Nature’s classroom, we will offer a library with thematic, audiovisual and documentary materials.

Bird Watching Stations
The Natural Park of Grazalema – declared a Reserve of the Biosphere by UNESCO – is a special Protection of Birds Zone (Zona de Especial Protección para Aves, ZEPA). The abundance and great variety of migratory birds and especially those of prey – eagles, falcons, owls or vultures, who have here the most numerous breeding colony in Europe - make our area a visit of great interest for bird lovers. For this reason, at our country house we will have Bird Watching Stations available for our guests. They will be placed in strategic location for observing, studying and photographing the birds.

Adventure Sports
Throughout the mountains of Ronda, and extensive network of signed pathways allows for hiking through gorgeous landscapes of great environmental value: on foot, by mountain bike or on horse. We offer all the necessary information and, if you would like, we will gladly get you in touch with agencies for organized activities: hot air balloon rides, archery, canoeing, spelunking, canyon descent, climbing, etc.

Ronda and its mountains
The legendary city of Ronda is only 12km from our Cortijo. The mysterious streets of the old city, the monuments and a are all must-sees. In the surrounding area, the mountains of Ronda offer very special places such as the Valley of the Genal, with its craggy mountains and chestnuts woods, the Route of the Pueblos Blancos –more than 25 white villages which are fine example of Andalusian simplicity, beauty and joy – or the Pileta Cave (declared a National Monument because of its cave paintings). We offer all the necessary information on these routes and on area festivals, shows,etc.

Day Trips
Thanks to el Cortijo’s central location in Andalusian our guests can comfortably and easily access cities such as Marbella, at 50km away, (specially attractive for sea and golf lovers), Seville, Málaga, Jerez, Granada, Cordoba Cadiz or Gibraltar (all are within a two-hours drive) and such places of natural value as Sierra Nevada or the National Park of Doñana.
