Monte de la Torre - is a private country property belonging to the Larios family, with a fine Edwardian house set in large mature gardens and surrounded by its own 400 hectares of natural cork oak forest and grazing for Retinto, the long-horned red cattle of southern Spain.

• Garden walks - Charles Quest-Ritson in The English Garden Abroad believes the gardens at Monte de la Torre to be "the most perfect surviving example of a belle époque garden in Spain. The house is surrounded by extensive flat lawns and formal gardens with mature trees, notably magnolia, palms and indigenous cork oaks".

• Walking and hiking on the estate forest trails.

• Ornithology, the property lies on one of the main lines of migration to Africa. Storks, golden orioles, nightjars and nightingales nest in the garden.

• Painting. We can organise holidays for painting groups, for 8 or more people.
• Visiting local Neolithic shelters, tombs and paintings (2000BC - 4000BC).

• Fine seafood restaurants and tapas bars in the area.

• Shopping for local products in the traditional open air markets in Algeciras & Los Barrios.

• Golf at Valderrama, plus 5 other courses within 15 minutes' drive along the Costa del Sol.

• TARIFA (20 minutes) An old moorish town, is now a mecca for windsurfers and kitesurfers. In and around Tarifa there are unspoilt beaches, spectacular views of Africa, fish restaurants and Roman ruins.

• Horse Riding There are stables on the beaches at Tarifa.

• Gibraltar (20 minutes) Visit for interesting military history, museum, apes, caves, duty free shopping and cable car to the summit.

•Cádiz (1 hour 20 mins) Day drive to Cádiz old town and ancient seafaring capital.

•Arcos De La Frontera, one of Andalucia's most dramatically positioned "pueblos blancos". Accommodation can be found at Casa Campana, a 500 year-old house in the heart of historic Arcos de la Frontera.

•Jerez (1 hour 15 mins) See the Spanish Dancing Horse display at the famous stables and visit sherry-making bodegas.

•Ronda (2 hours) Scenic drives to Ronda, or go by train through the mountains.
•Costa del Sol to the East for Marbella and Málaga.

• MOROCCO Day trips or longer to Morocco. We can advise on an excellent private guide for visits of one day or more to this fascinating country. Visitors can also make arrangements with a local tour company for day trips or more. Fast ferries travel from Tarifa or Algeciras to Tangier or Ceuta several times daily (35 mins to 2 hour sailing time). We advise that you enquire ahead of time if you wish to travel to Morocco. Port embarcation is 10 minutes from the house.

•Airports
Gibraltar Airport, a 20 minute drive, has daily flights to London Gatwick, Luton and Manchester. Málaga airport is a 90 minute drive by motorway, and Jerez airport is one hour´s drive by dual carriage-way.
