Interview: London's Top Tapas Chefs

Hailing from southern Spain, chef Jose Pizarro has won over hard-nosed London foodies with his emphasis on fresh, quality ingredients for his classic tapas. He talked to andalucia.com exclusively about his plans for the future, including a new London restaurant, and a rural hotel and cooking school near his home town.

Andalucia.com visits the Expo in Shangai

Noemí Román, general manager of our sister company, Andalucía Web Solutions, visited this year’s Universal Expo in Shanghai, to promote Andalucia.com. She was there during the week dedicated to Andalucia, and she spoke to representatives from various local Chinese companies. These new contacts will be important for promoting the website in China, which offers one the world’s fastest-growing markets.

The Spanish pavilion was considered to be one of the best of the Expo, winning third prize for its design. Its restaurant, which offered many Andalucian dishes, enjoyed huge popularity. The Shanghai Expo was the most successful ever, with 73 million visitors, of whom seven million visited the Spanish pavilion. Andalucía.com was delighted that Noemí was able to attend such a key global event.

World Heritage in Andalucia

Editors Corner

By Fiona Flores Watson

I’m very happy to say that the profile of andalucia.com, as a showcase for all the best that southern Spain has to offer, just got higher. We have an exclusive interview with Extremaduran (OK, so it’s not quite Andalucia, but very close) chef Jose Pizarro, a charming adoptive Londoner whose superb, simple tapas have won him many loyal followers.

Gastronomy/tapas was one of the choices in our readers’ poll on Andalucia’s most famous aspects, although the narrow winner was flamenco. Perhaps not so typically Andalucian is our region’s world-class ski resort, Sierra Nevada , where the season has just started. So before you get your boots on, don’t miss our newly updated and expanded guide.

More familiar to visitors are Andalucia’s World Heritage Sites , from the Doñana National Park, to the marvels of the big three: Seville, Granada and Cordoba.

At andalucia.com, we know that our region (and our website) attracts visitors from all over the world. And in view of Andalucia’s rich Moorish legacy, what could be more appropriate that offering an introduction to the website in Arabic?

So to all lovers of Andalucia’s winter sports, flamenco, history and gastronomy, let me take this opportunity to wish you a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous 2011, from all the team at andalucia.com
