Cabra is right in the geographic centre of Andalucia,
and the gateway to the Subbetica region of Cordoba with its many
areas of natural beauty.
Sites to visit include the Fuente del Rio, source
of the Cabra River, and the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Sierra,
the town´s patron saint. This lies at the top of El Picacho,
some 1200 meters high. It's of mediaeval construction, rebuilt in
the sixteenth century.
There are seven routes of interest to follow on
foot, bike or horseback from the town, taking in caves, villages
and hill tops. The tourist office has information: Tel: 957 520
110.
Cabra is halfway along the Vía
Verde of the Subbética, a walking and cycling route along
a disused railway line skirting the Sierras
Subbéticas Natural Park.
