Google Toolbar
The most useful function is being able to search the web with Google without having to go to google’s website first. This is quite a time saver. In addition you can search just within the website you are looking at, or search news, maps or images.
Other useful functions are a spell check for the web page forms you fill in. A Pop up blocker (allow only pop ups from websites you want and avoid many of those pop up adverts.) It also includes a page rank indicator of the web page you are looking at. This is the holy grail for those who want their pages to rank highly in Google. View the world ranking of each website. Founded in 1996 and now owned by Amazon, Alexa is the company that ranks the popularity of websites based on information collected from the tens of millions of surfers who have downloaded their toolbar. As Alexa says “Simply by using the toolbar each member contributes valuable information about the web, how it is used, what is important and what is not.” Even if your motives are not philanthropic as you surf you can see the all important Alexa rank of a website.
