The terracotta roofs and majestic Church make Algodonales a " picture postcard" scene.
30km - 1/2 hour
Continue along the N342 a side road on the right leads to the village of Algodonales.
You will soon see the recently flooded
valley of the river Guadalete, this is due to the construction of
the Zahara dam and reservoir which are proudly overlooked by the
village of Zahara de la Sierra.
After 10 km there is a right hand
turning for Sevilla. Turn right here if you are following the Algodonales to Sevilla
route.
Straight on, the N 342 just by passes
Villamartin. Soon we see Arcos de la Frontera
and its castle towering above on the top of the cliffs.
30 km further on we reach Jerez
de la Frontera, town of Sherry, horses and flamenco. Notice
the Formula 1 racing track just on the outside of the town. Before
the town we cross over the toll motorway. Turn right for Jerez
to Sevilla itinerary and left for Cadiz,
El Puerto de Santa Maria and Rota. Continue into Jerez and out on
the C440 for San
Lucar de Barrameda. Be careful it is very easy to get lost driving
around Jerez.
