Walk for a good cause

Do you live in or near Malaga? Do you enjoy walking? Are you keen to support worthwhile charities, such as a hospice for cancer sufferers? Then you will be interested to hear about this event, taking place on Sunday 15 May. The Cudeca Walkathon will set off from the promenade in front of the Sunset Beach complex in Benalmadena. This sponsored walk is to raise money for the Cudeca Hospice, in Arroyo de la Miel, which looks after people with advanced cancer and their families. Those taking part in the walk have a choice of three routes of various lengths, each with its own starting time: 10 km for the sports enthusiasts, leaving at 10.30am; 5km for those of you who like to walk at a relaxed pace, which departs at 11.30am; and the 2km walk specially adapted for children and friends in wheelchairs, also starting at 11.30am. Inscriptions will begin at 9.30am at the tables by the sea wall. The cost is 10€ for prepayment, 12€ for payment on the day and 6€ for children. The idea is that you get your family and friends to sponsor you for every kilometre you walk. The walkers who earn the highest sponsorship for the Cudeca Hospice will receive excellent prizes. There will also be a prize for the biggest group of people taking part in (friends, clubs etc.) This year the money raised will go towards covering the costs of the care programmes for more than 700 patients suffering from advanced cancer and their families in the province of Malaga, offered completely free of charge. The inscription form is now available and you can register either at reception of the Cudeca Hospice, in any of the 12 Cudeca Foundation charity shops along the coast (Alhaurin el Grande, Alora, Arroy del Miel - 3, Coin, Estepona, Fuengirola, Malaga, Marbell and Nerja), and on their web page www.cudeca.org. This will be a fun day for the family with sport, live music, a big paella, barbeque and other amusements. Exploramas, will take care of the games and there will be a live show for children with a performance by Ronald McDonald. Cudeca Hospice is located in Arroyo de la Miel in Benalmadenaand has many high-profile supporters and trustees, including Antonio Banderas, who visited the hospice with his wife Melanie Griffiths last month, and who supports the hospice's work through the Fundación Lágrimas y Favores.
