Re: Avocados

I am no expert, but I have been told that avocados come as either male or female, and that you need both within an insects wandering range to achieve fruit. If you buy a tree, the nurseryman grafts both sexes onto the same rootstock, which solves the problem. Apart from that, it is in the lap of the...

Re: Non-Resident 90 days in a rolling 180?

I am resident in Spain, which, as I understand it, means that I can spend as much time as I want here, but that the 90 day rule still applies to the time I spend in the rest of the EU. The nearest airport is Faro, in Portugal. If I arrive there, presumably my passport will be scanned, and some compu...

Re: Dog walking during the lockdown

It looks like my original question has been answered, the rules are local.
Thanks to all for their input. I'm not sure who I feel sorry for the most, the dog or myself!

Dog walking during the lockdown

Are there national guidelines for dog walking, or is it down to local interpretation? Which probably means the interpretation of whoever you are speaking to at the time. I live in a small village, currently free of any infection, and the Guardia here seem to feel that it is barely permissible, with ...

Re: Intelsat 907 / Satback Update - Major News!!!

Anyone have any idea when we will lose Intelsat 907/ Sat and PC guy? It is great to still have tv via satellite at this difficult time. We have a Magbox for internet viewing, but at the moment our broadband is running like treacle and tv pretty unwatchable. Guess because everyone is keeping in touch...

The rolls of bags for loose fruit and veg in our Lidl are now biodegradable.

Re: Windows Update - Windows 7

Hi Enrique, just to say that events have overtaken and I haven´t yet tried your fix. Waiting until Christmas etc is over as I can´t bear the thought of it all going pear shaped at the moment. I will be back in touch when I have done it. At the moment have Windows Update turned off. Hope you had a go...

Re: Windows Update - Windows 7

Hi Enrique, yes have rebooted since the restore and all normal. I have deleted the downloads again as suggested in step 1 of your reply, but haven't checked the updates failures - don't feel strong enough today!! Will look later after a glass of something soothing! Will let you know. Jeanne

Re: Windows Update - Windows 7

Thanks Enrique, did as you suggested. However, when the updates were complete and I restarted the system, the same happened i.e. Windows start failure. Eventually got the system restored and have now turned off updates again.

Windows Update - Windows 7

Had updates yesterday and as usual did a restart but windows wouldn´t load and went straight to Windows Diagnostics and Repair then seemed to get stuck in a never ending loop. Finally, thank goodness, an HP page came up in which I could do a systen restore. All was then well. But being a pessimist, ...

Re: Former Iberbanda Customers

Olive. Yes, I did have to ask them to put an antenna on the roof. I told the tecnico when he installed the router that I thought we needed one as the Movistar 3g signal in our house for our mobile phones hardly ever works and they default to Portugal (200 metres away). We have exceptionally thick wa...

Re: Former Iberbanda Customers

Update: We have now had an antenna installed on the roof by Movistar to try and improve our speeds. I am delighted to say that we now have up to 10mB - a great improvemnet over Iberbanda. One happy customer.

Re: Former Iberbanda Customers

Yes, it´s unlimited. Doesn´t seem to slow noticably at peak times - but this is a small isolated village with most using adsl. Early days, but so far, so good. As for upload, that is slower, but we don´t use Skype or facetime, so no problem to us. I will keep you posted after we have been on it a bi...

Re: Former Iberbanda Customers

Just an update: finally got the call to say that our base staion for Iberbanda is going to switched off during the next month. Decided to bite the bullet immediately and called Movistar on 1004. I insisted that I preferred go with Movistar Internet Radio, their 3g/4g system. Called last Friday, they ...

Re: Former Iberbanda Customers

We have always been pleased with Iberbanda Wimax. It is the perfct alternative in our village. The speed isn´t great - up to 3mbs download, but quite sufficient to watch UK TV on our Magbox except sometimes at weekends when it stutters a bit. Long may it last! the only disadvantage is that when we h...

Re: Former Iberbanda Customers

We too are old customers of Iberbanda, and have had the same experience as you. When we got the letter from Movistar they also advised us of alternatives from them i.e. adsl or 3/4g depending on area. I decided to try the 3g service as I didn´t want to rely on old landlines miles from the exchange. ...
