Re: Re-investing House Sale Money
Thanks all for your replies. To reply to some of them: No we did not let the Town Hall know we had transferred the car (because we were in the UK when it happened and have not been back to Spain since) - DVLA said they would let Trafico know and we thought that was enough. There was no 3% retention ...

Re: Re-investing House Sale Money
Answering a few questions before I read any further. CAR: The car was brought over from the UK in 2004, registered onto Spanish plates,, taken back to the UK in December 2011, registered onto UK plate in May 2012 and then sold in June 2012. DVLA said they would send notification of this to Trafico e...

Re: Re-investing House Sale Money
We sold the car (in the UK) in June 2012. I sent them the documents saying this. They then later asked us for car tax from January 2013.
Having said that, I've heard nothing for about six months, hopefully they'll leave us alone now.
Thanks for the info

Re-investing House Sale Money
Hi there, a long time no see. What is the rule for selling a house and re-investing the profits in another? I know there used to be something about if you re-invested within a certain time you did not have to pay any tax. Can the house be in the UK? (We don't actually owe any tax,it was paid up when...

Re: Tracing birth mother
I traced my birth mother three years ago when I was 62 and she was 84. I had my original birth certificate with her name and address, stuck that information into a site called 'Missing You' (they have a special section for adopted people) and had five answers all pointing to the same lady. I then wr...

Re: Tax on pension lump sums
Glad we got my husband's lump sum from his Teachers' Pension before we went to Spain, and are now getting the lump sum from my Local Government Pension next month after we have come back. No tax to pay on either

Re: Life of gas boiler
We never had any trouble with our Junkers boiler in all the eight years we lived in Spain, apart from when a bird built a nest in the flue. Once we cleaned that out it was OK again. My husband cleaned the boiler out every year (as in front off and hoover dust out), and we had it professionally servi...

Re: UKIP looking ok :)
I voted UKIP in the Europeans but Conservative for my councillor (in n attempt not to split the Tory vote as the Labour council have virtually bankrupted my city (not far away from where JWhite lives). Labour got in anyway. We do have one UKIP councillor, he has defected from LibDems and has held th...

Re: My faith is restored
TBH, the longer I was in Spain, the more stressful I found this sort of thing. I like rules to be clear cut and applied fairly, not made up as they go along and some people singled out and others getting away scot- free. They STILL want money off us for our car, despite the fact that it was re-regis...

Re: Cowboy Builders Channel 5
I have heard Kevin Macleod on Grand Designs speak in both French and Italian, and understand what was said back to him. So not all the presenters lack language skills. I agree that Miguel Xavier Denzil Portillo would be excellent. Such a charming man with beautiful jackets. :) I don't think he's int...

Re: How to pay.
I just sent them a cheque and covering letter.......I suppose that won't work if you don't have a UK Bank Account though.

Hope you all get it sorted.

Re: At times I wonder, is it worth all the hassle
This sort of thing is a great example of why I found it increasingly stressful living in Spain. I am a law-abiding person and want to do the right thing. But they often go out of their way to make it almost impossible to do the right thing. It pays to break the law. 'Two words, 'shooting' and 'foot'...

Re: Going back to the UK-questions
We managed to close our bank account from UK. I wrote to them (proper letter, not e-mail) and enclosed a copy of our passports and residency cards. Our bank cards had expired, otherwise I would have enclosed those too. This was successful and they did close the account (although I did not know this ...

Re: Chance of Early Retirement
AFAIK if you rent your house in the UK, the tax from that must be paid in the UK. ( However, I may be wrong because the rules seem to vary from one year/province to the next). I used to send the accounts from my UK house to the Inland Revenue in the UK, who knew I lived in Spain. They always accepte...

Re: Chance of Early Retirement
We came to Spain in 2004 when we were 54 and 55, living on my husband's Teachers' Pension of less than £10k a year. We had already bought our house in 2003, and also had a house in the UK which our son lived in with a couple of lodgers. I was covered on the S1 because I had worked and paid enough NI...

They make the rules up as they go along. Try another office/officer.
This is my considered advice.

Re: house value
Our buyer's bank valued our house when he applied for a mortgage. It was slightly more than our asking price. The asking price was worked out (by us) by looking at what other houses had sold for in our village and then applying pluses and minuses (in other words our house had no garden (minus) but d...

Re: Voluntary NI contributions (Class III)
Hi Terry Would you possibly know if one retires in Dec 2016 and has paid Voluntary NI Contributions(Class 111) up until 2010/2011 Tax Year, whether any further Contributions are necesssary. Also do you know how the AutoCredits System works. I only have 7 Qualifying years at present to a Basic State...
