Re: Driving to Bilbao

costakid, I won't believe it until I see us moving away from the quayside  markwilding, we rebooked an hotel in Torrelavega west of Santander, as I know the route from their to the port and it saves driving past Santander to get to Portugalete and then driving back again. Many thanks for all o...

Re: Driving to Bilbao

This falls into the "you couldn't make it up category". Last Sunday the Santander to Portsmouth ferry was cancelled whilst we were en route north on Saturday. So we rebooked to sail from Bilbao on Friday 20th with an hotel on Thursday night near Bilbao. At 1645 Wednesday, a text and email from Britt...

Re: Driving to Bilbao

Thanks for that tip, are there the same rules in Cantabria and Basque Country as we have in Andalucia - non-essential shops and businesses must close at 6pm - so no bars or cafes open in the evening, plus of course the night time curfew?

Re: Driving to Bilbao

It was definitely a PITA, but fortunately we have a house to return to, albeit we had given away the contents of the freezer to friends and had nothing fresh in the house to eat, plus a wasted half tank of fuel and 6 hours, plus unloading the carefully loaded car. I've never experienced a cancellati...

Re: Driving to Bilbao

On Saturday we set off for our overnight stay at Aranda de Duero, before going on to Santander on Sunday for the ferry to Portsmouth. We stopped as we usually do at Cafe Bar La Frontera, adjacent to a Repsol service station at about km68 on the A-44. for breakfast. Normally at 1100 it's very busy, t...

Re: Victoria Marengo Beer

Hi jonbar.1 Our ferry booked for today was cancelled yesterday as we were driving north about 3 hours from home, so we turned around and came back, so maybe we'll be able to try the draught version before our rebooked sailing on Friday. Apologies for the delayed response - having bad internet and em...

Re: Victoria Marengo Beer

We saw Marengo in bottles in Maskom supermarket in Torre del Mar - €1.50 per bottle.

Re: Victoria Marengo Beer

Hi
jonbar.1
Thanks for this, unfortunately it will have to wait until our next trip, driving to Santander tomorrow for the ferry on Sunday to Portsmouth.
I've made a note of "La Taberna" and we'll check it out in February - Covid restrictions permitting!

PS did you have it on draught or bottles?

Victoria Marengo Beer

Possibly my favourite beer is brewed by Victoria; a couple of weeks ago, we found bottles of a dark beer - Victoria Marengo Negro in a supermarket in Torre del Mar. It was really tasty, but we haven't found it yet in a bar - even one where the "house beer" is the usual golden coloured Victoria. Does...

Re: Balay Activa 505 Oven question

Thanks por, I downloaded the manual before my initial post.

Unless I missed it in translation, the manual doesn't tell the user how to know when the desired temperature is reached.

I'll give the fast warmup a go next time we use the oven.

Re: Balay Activa 505 Oven question

Hi Enrique - no such luck with our Balay....

But por - that seems to work - although a light going off would have been nice - as would some words of wisdom in the user manual!

Thanks both - z

Balay Activa 505 Oven question

When we bought our house earlier this year, it came with a Balay Activa 505 built in electric oven, model 3HT505X/04, but the previous owner didn't leave a user manual. I've been able to download a manual that covers several models - supposedly including ours, although the drawings don't show our ex...

Re: Should I or should I not apply for residency/TIE

Yes katy, I knew that, thanks - our longest stay including the ferry crossings was 181 days, being mindful of not crossing the 183 day threshold; but most stays are, as I wrote upfront, 4 to 6 weeks.
