Charity shops would certainly take the books but the problem is finding one that is currently allowed to open.

I should have added that it also depends on what the stated value is on the customs declaration.
A lot of the Chinese suppliers I use put a low declaration on the paperwork, hence no additional paperwork/ payment.

I suspect holiday home insurance because it could be empty most of the year, is dearer than permanent home insurance which is likely to be occupied most of the year.
