Almond and Carob harvesting questions

I have 3 almond trees and last year, I harvested a 3/4 bucket full of nuts. This is my secind year owning the trees and one tree doesn't appear to have any nuts this season, the second had a few and the husks were split and some were falling so I presume ripe. The third is heavily laden with nuts bu...

Young vegetable plugs

Is there a way, magic or otherwise, to acquire little vegetable plug seedlings during these sad, isolating times? I hear in Britain there's a mobile garden centre that's selling plants so that they don't all die and are wasted. I know that their lockdown is less strict than here, in Spain. Anyone ha...

Friend or foe?

I see lot's of these little fellas in my garden. I think they're called fire bugs? Not sure. Question is, should I befriend them or are they pests. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Re: Guardia and the CV rules.

Thanks for that info. I have a dangerous, narrow, winding mountain road at the bottom of my drive with wide, open mountain tracks just a couple of kms away. Frustrating..
I've not been able to find a definitive 'dos and don'ts' list. Thanks again and keep safe.

Re: Guardia and the CV rules.

I'm in lockdown in Axarquia and am really struggling to find the hard and fast rules with regard to what you can and can't do. I keep hearing only one person per car. Not allowed to walk one dog, one person further than 150 metres from your home. etc, etc.. I would have thought that the Ayuntamiento...

Re: Harvesting green olives

Encouraging... I picked a large jar full and there are a few with a brown dot or two on them but they look quite nice otherwise. They're only for my own consumption and I'm just itching to see how they pickle. I think I used regular table salt and vinegar last time. Do you think that'll be ok? I too...

Re: Harvesting green olives

Thanks everyone for your response. I understand that olives used for oil tend to have larger stones as the stones contain a lot of oil and that's the main reason why they're chosen for that purpose but they also make perfectly good table olives (I'm told). If my variety are the 'oil' variety, they t...

Harvesting green olives

Two years ago (my first year as an olive tree owner), I picked a few and cured some olives from a couple of my four trees. My first time. They were a purplish colour. It was quite successful. They tasted ok but maybe I should re-think the seasoning I used. The trees probably hadn't been touched for ...

Yes, thanks. I think they're just too young to identify as they're all green. I guess time will tell. Thanks again..

Re: What to do with the fruit!?

Many tanks El Cid. I've planted 4 other citrus - lemon, lime, mandarin, and orange, of a similar age. Only the Orange and Lemon (or lime) (I can't tell the difference between the lemon and lime though), have fruit. Much less than the one pictured but I will take note of your advice for the future. T...

What to do with the fruit!?

I have this little orange tree that my neighbours poison overspray nearly killed. Fortunately, it was only the foliage. I put it in a pot and hoped for the best. I came back to Spain two days ago after 3 months away to find it loaded with little oranges. So much so, the little trunk could bearly tak...

Re: Tahini

Thanks everyone. I will try Mercadona in Torre today. The one in Torrox didn't have any and the assistant looked at me as if I was mad whan I asked. Probably my bad Spanish though. I do grow my own chillies and I have a good supplier in a little Asian supermarket in Berlin which I bring with me but ...
