Re: Coronavirus
Useful info, thanks peter- no point in me applying for a UK-ES switch just now then. My last post, I queried if it can be right that only taxis can take people to the airport. By chance, I listened to a minister or govt spokesperson (missed the name) and he addressed this exact point amongst others....

Re: Coronavirus
3rd day running of the balcony applause (now at 20:00 prompt) but I felt it flagging a bit today - perhaps because I'm not caught out anymore and put a T-shirt on today. Laundry guy is open and I shall collect Weds. He told me a customer was really keen for a collection date ticket because he was qu...

Re: Coronavirus
I had a feeling things were going to move quickly by Tuesday and managed to get/give email/WhataSap details to some of the elderly/living alone neighbours in case they need supplies getting in. If nothing else, just sending some cheerful messages might help as it's funny how quickly mindless boredom...

Re: Rematriculating a Previously ES-plated Car
The lockdown may well put a delay on things but a little update. One of the specialists I've been in much contact with has taken the details of its former Spanish life and says registration tax will not be due because of it. OTOH, a check will be required to see that no outstanding tax is due (and t...

Re: importing questions
Squeezing into the thread (apols, Winston) to say "thanks dxf" for answering two of my own Qs. I suspected padron rather than residencia might be the trigger (although my UK plater originally had an ES plate and the gestor says it will go back to it and no reg tax is payable). What effect ...

Re: Corona virus Spanish lockdown
I'll also add my condolences, Manchesteral. Although attending a funeral might be considered exceptional circumstances, I noticed that FCO advice (which seems to be entirely reactive to other countries' announcements, but hey) is to avoid Spain for all but essential travel. This is bound to have an ...

Re: Pet friendly Bordeaux hotel?
Vx/Opel are notorious (I have a Combo Tour for my Eurotreks) for not liking cheaper, aftermarket sensors so carrying your own is good insurance. Countless times on the forum people have problems and it's the sensor they got off ebay or the discount parts store. I'm considering carrying a used but wo...

Re: Pet friendly Bordeaux hotel?
I tend to grit my teeth and get past Bordeaux. Only stayed there once, without a pet. I like Chatellerault, but that's a hefty 7+hr run from Lerma (assuming you're not gridlocked in Bordeaux, which I almost always am). Nearer, about 6hrs, but more of a detour from what I suspect is your route, is a ...

Re: blocked windscreen washer jets
Coincidentally (and there's a terrible pun I shall ignore), I have just been down today after last night's feeble dribbles. They've never been good since I bought it (13 yrs old), particularly the passenger side. The interdental brush freed up dust, but the nozzle hole is now so wide that, instead o...

Re: Rematriculating a Previously ES-plated Car
Thanks, Span. That is very useful info, as I shall pester my sprog to send me photos of the car's docs and (I know I'll be wasting my breath with him) Mrs Bass is doing a 10-day flying visit next week so I'll get her to bring the glovebox contents with her. Anything that gets photocopied by the gest...

Re: Rematriculating a Previously ES-plated Car
Thanks for the quick response and advice. I agree, and not too concerned about, the chattel tax aspect given it's not a hugely valuable vehicle (although some arbitrary time limit is irritating with large items). I am concerned about driving a UK-plated car of mine down here after my residency, padr...

Rematriculating a Previously ES-plated Car
Hello, another one of those "importing my car" threads (most of which I've read thoroughly) but this one is slightly different so I thought I'd ask. Has anyone experience of matriculation for a vehicle that was originally Spanish, taken abroad and re-plated in another EU country but is now...

Re: Buying a van to move furniture to Spain
Assuming you are thinking of buying a van in the UK and coming down in convoy, rather than getting a van once in Albanchez for local shifting, that might well be a hard sell once you're done with it. RHD has very limited appeal, moreso with larger vehicles. I have a LHD Combo Tour, which has been a ...

Re: DELPASO Car Hire – A cautionary tale.
Having bought my own car two years ago I wake up every day thanking all deities I no longer have to do this. Before that, I'd packed in with almost all local companies (the exception being Cargest) and paid the extra for Alamo/Enterprise. My last experience with old DelPaso, which is slightly too tr...

I don't know if you've seen this already, or if it's actually relevant to your query, but I read this in the printed version of Olive Press just this morning: https://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2020/01/27/the-alhambra-in-granada-makes-more-tickets-available-to-the-general-public/ I wonder if th...

Continuing off-piste, but I agree with Toledo, Katy. There was a museum of tapestries, many years ago, that I could have spent an age in and I didn't get around enough of the city itself.

Re: blocked windscreen washer jets
Bit late to the game, I thought I'd already written this. My jets get the same problem and, rather than a pin, I use an interdental stick. Not the wire ones with bristles for gaps like I've got (I can park the car between my incisors) but little plastic ones with tiny rubbery fronds that my wife use...

Ask them to send you a certificate, a single A4 page listing what you're covered for SIN PAGO. AFAIK, our certificate made no mention of psychologia, and our friend's certainly didn't (same Co.), neither did the ejemplo certificate sent by our paper monkeys as an example of what we needed. As an add...
