Re: First actual problem re:Brexit

I am still trying to figure out why they need a licence. I hold accounts with banks outside the EU that don't have EU licences. They are not actively marketing to clients in the EU but if you call them up they will open an account for you. Simple - those banks are outside EU jurisdiction and thus n...

Re: Gas cooker installation

I was left 3 bottles when I bought my apartment, I never bothered with a contract - just nip to Cepsa or Repsol with the empty. I only have a gas water heater so a bottle lasts for a long, long time.

I might get a gas hob but wouldn't bother with a gas oven - too hard to control the tempreature.

Re: Travel Covid requirements

That is correct; which I find quite incredible, but there we are.

We have to hope the covid numbers drop everywhere for them to re-open air travel. I really feel for people whose livelihoods are being destroyed by this pandemic.

Re: Travel Covid requirements

As I am sure you are all aware, from 23rd Nov a valid (certified) PCR test is needed for all arrivals by sea or air into Spain. This includes Gibraltar. Tests are available privately and cost between £100 and £200, and must be from within 72 hrs at the time you arrive in Spain. I assume this is done...

Re: Any providers of Travel Insurance to Spain despite the FCO advise?

Yes I've used Staysure and my total policy cost for 1 year was about £39.50 or so (but I am under 40....just!). You ARE NOT covered for illnesses relating to covid (your EHIC will cover you...for now!), but you ARE covered for anything else, theft, injury etc.

Re: Living in Spain after Dec 31, 2020

Minor rant: People will soon realise that it is not 90 days in every 180 in one country (e.g. Spain) but 90 days in *any* Schengen country. That means you cannot come to Spain, spend 3 months here and then have a spring ski holiday to France or Italy. It also means you need to bear the mind the days...

Re: Long Term Car Parking at Malaga Airport

I would also take photos of the odometer before and after, and if you wish to be extra sure, get a cheap GPS tracker from Amazon and ping it every no and then (or if you are more technically minded, you can have it send a text message to your phone when it is moved).

Kitchen fitter / tiler Almunecar/Nerja area

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew a reliable kitchen fitter and tiler somewhere near Almunecar/Nerja/La Herradura area? I'm planning to refurbish the kitchen early next year and need to start finding people.

Cheers!

Re: Leroy Merlin Click & Collect

It doesn't look like it, for floor tiles at least. I did click and collect for some radiators recently, but I am assuming that heavy items like flooring is delivery only. That's what the website suggests, anyway. They had some floor tiles in stock at the LM Compact store in Motril a few weeks ago......

Re: UK driving licences valid in Spain?

As far as driving/renting a car in Spain goes (assuming you are non resident or don't swap your UK licence), you will need an International Driving Permit number 1949 . Valid for 1 year. https://www.postoffice.co.uk/international-driving-permit#IDP-Checker Remember that if taking your car from the U...

Re: Waste disposal

All towns as far as I am aware have recycling facilities. Yes, it is on Ronda de Levant next to the municiple cemetery! Two recycling points together!!! This is exactly what I needed to know - thank you, Gerry! I drove the stuff over there and a helpful man told me which skips to put it in. All sor...

Re: Bottled gas - how does it work?

Fixed it ! It was two things, firstly the gas from the bottle seemed to be taking time to reach the boiler, but also the flow rate to the kitchen tap wasn't high enough and was shutting off the boiler. Took the tap spout off and cleaned it out - it was full of scale - and bingo, worked first time. W...

Re: Bottled gas - how does it work?

Well, I got new gas, replaced the regulator and hose, and......................nothing. The boiler makes a clicking sound (I actually took the cover off, and could see the sparking) and then I get an error code which appears to be "no gas". So either the pipe is blocked or something else i...

Waste disposal

Hello Just sorting out my new apartment and I have a load of stuff to get rid of; and not entirely sure what to do. Obviously, in the UK, you'd drive it all to the local dump but I believe they don't have those here (I am in Motril area). Can anyone advise on what to do? Mattresses - I believe the l...

Re: Malaga car hire.

Hi All I rent cars often from Malaga, and I can give you some advice. 1. Buy yourself an excess protection policy (use confused.com for price comparison) - it is MUCH cheaper than the excess protection the car hire firm will try and flog you. I think I paid £30 for a year, and Interrent wanted £150 ...

This is all super useful information, thank you all!!!

I'll go and get 2 bottles; assuming 1 shower a day and a bit of washing up, how long should they last?

Re: Bottled gas - how does it work?

Thanks Sid, I have 3 bottles (!) all of which seem empty to me, the boiler is ignited by sparks from some D-size batteries that need replacing, so I can't actually fire it up until I replace those next week when I visit. So you think if I take the empties back, they will just replace them with no ha...

Bottled gas - how does it work?

Hello Can anyone help me quickly? I've bought my place on the coast, a lovely apartment, and it has bottled gas for the hot water boiler. I know you can buy gas bottles from the local petrol station, but do you need a contract or can you literally just turn up with your empties and buy full bottles?...

Re: Thinking of buying in Andalucia...

Hi All Quick note to say, I am visiting Almuencar next week to look at some apartments. After doing a fair amount of research, it looks like a nice place and I have spoken with people who actually come from the town (or very nearby) and have good things to say about it. So we will see what happens. ...
