Re: Cyclists

I was involved in road safety for many years, and at a lecture by a prominent policeman, he said that, “cyclists have more right to the road than motorists, in that motorist need a licence to drive, their car needs tax & insurance, and maybe an MOT, without any one of these, a motorist would be ille...

Re: Lost Post

As an ex postie in Britain (but not for long), I can tell you that they even had a name for mail items that they don’t want to deliver. Greetings cards often got opened, looking for money inside, then thrown away. I never use post boxes over here because; it’s sometimes difficult to know the correct...

Were we live, we often find just one of the recycling bins empty, meaning, they do get collected separately.

Re: Tent on rustic land

I’ve found that, the more I use my town hall, the friendlier & helpful they are.
I wouldn’t think twice about asking for permission for anything, and if they didn’t know the answer, I’m sure they’d be in my corner when finding out for me.

Re: Its cold!

There’s a town near us called Oria, their fiesta is on the second weekend in May, and it’s known for being cold for it.
So the saying goes:- “never cast a clout till Oria fiesta be out”

Re: actions to take after a suicide ...

Someone near us hung himself, an ambulance was called, but when they arrived they said, “What can we do, he’s dead, call an undertaker”, and left him hanging there!
Sounds pretty callous to us, but it’s just one of the many things that are different here!

I received our car tax bill today, via e-mail. I don’t know if this is widespread or just in our area?
Keep an eye on your inbox just in case.

Petrol every time, you’re never tethered to a power source.
Common sense is the best safety factor, but by all means, do more about it if you wish.

Re: Well Water

When we moved here, we had our well water analysed, we were told that it wasn’t quite up to drinking quality; nevertheless, the Spanish blokes renovating our house drank this water saying that “the water around here is good”? After a couple of years using the well water, for most things except drink...

Re: wild green figs

We get green figs, and eat them. When they look big & juicy, take them from the tree, squeeze at the ‘stalk end’ so that the ‘bottom end’ splits & opens up. First make sure that a small insect hasn’t burrowed into the base (easy to see if it has), then just eat the contents of the fig, but don’t bot...

Re: eco brick maker ?

We’ve used one of those ‘brick maker’ thingies, we found it quite satisfying at first, being ecological and all that, but it got bit tedious after a while, there’s a lot of messing about, wetting your paper and tearing it up, then waiting for the ‘bricks’ to dry. Try rolling up your newspapers, very...

Re: Advice re estate agents in Almeria region

Hi Champagne Fairy, you seem to have some of the main Estate Agents covered, however there are many more. You’ve maybe already done this, but if not, just Google ‘houses for sale’,with the area you’re interested in, there are websites like kyero.com, or get info from the local free paper ‘Euro Weekl...
