Re: Betting shops?
No, there a no betting shops in Spain, they are illigal. They started opening up and the Government shut them down, The Guardia Civil went in and cut the cables off the TV`s and closed them down immediatley. All gambling in Spain (even bingo) has to be liscensed by the Government.

Re: Renewing non resident NIE help please
A client applied for his NIE in Marbella about 6 weeks ago, when it arrived it stated on the bottom that it was only valid for three months from date of issue. It also stated that If they were required to produce it after that date that have to go the Policia Nacional and get a newly dated copy. I w...

Re: Claiming Unemployment Benefit
The union ofdices have nothing to do with the Oficina de Empleo, they are staffed by normal Spanish workers who have trained in work law off there own back, every company with over 50 members of staff have to have a union by law in Spain. They have many different names, the one I used in Marbella is...

Re: Things that have changed since you lived in Spain
I arrived here in 1979 as a12 year old child, just about everything has changed since then, but then it took us three days to drive from Santander to Marbella, so Motorways have made a huge change, 11 hour drive today. OH! by the way when I left school 1983, they were talking about bringing the trai...

Re: Claiming Unemployment Benefit
There are various union offices in most towns along the Costa del Sol, even if you are not a member they know most of it inside out and will help for free. My daughter gor offered a job on false pretences whilst she was claiming benefit (they said it was €800 a month and it was actually €500 a month...

Re: The San Pedro tunnell / bypass.
Set off this morning from my house at the top end of Nueva Andalucia at 09:10, drove to Estepona town centre to drop somebody off. I was back in the office in Puerto Banus at 09:45 (I wasn´t speeding either, much better than before. I´m happy using the tunnel, think it´s ten time better than before....

Re: Electricity Meter??
Yes electricity meters can be owned by an individual home owner in Spain, however if you own the meter you will not be charged the standard rental fee. If you do own it then repairs and maintenance are at your own cost. I only know as my neighbour bought his own meter which had to have it installed ...

Re: 4 bed villa wanted for very long term let
The majoruty of rental contracts (long term) in Spain are for 11 months only, very few people will give youy longer. THe is good chance at the end of it they will renew for another 11 months, that is just the way it seems to be here. Good luck

Don´t wear your flourescent jacket if your car breaks down in Cataluña.
I can picture it now, stood by the side of the road with your bright yellow jackets on.
People driving past shouting ¿Cuanto Cuesta?
Merry Christmas

Re: Tarjeta Sanitaria Question
From my experieince it´s normally about 2 years before any action is taken on your tarjeta sanataria ie. stopping your card from working so you have to go into a main ambulotorio and see the staff before you can see a doctor in person. They can then activate the card anyway (even with non-payment of...

Re: 100% mortgage
You can get up to 109% mortgages in Spain at the moment but you must prove that you can pay the repyments, so lots of paperwork to provide. You can get a 100% mortgage with the first 24 months as interest only, some of our clients are using this option. On a brand new never lived in bank repossessio...
