Re: A hot day in Velez Malaga
We got air con fitted in the bedroom about 3 weeks ago. We've been here permanently since 2012 and every Summer we've debated whether to spend what to us is a LOT of money. This year, thanks to lockdown (!) we've saved quite a fair old sum so went for it! I am soooooo glad we did!

Re: Permanent residence
I completely understand you not updating, elusive - it took much hand-wringing before we decided to go for it, I was worried it might get snatched away and our health cover with it. We did it because I'd read that with 'permanente' the change to a TIE card would be automatic...... but who knows? If/...

Re: Permanent residence
Thanks for your replies, elusive, brimsham and Peter, we do still have copies of our S1 forms so will be sure to take them back to the UK with us in future. Elusive, I was hoping just the EX18 forms, the bank payment forms and copies of our passports (plus of course our little green tarjetas) would ...

Permanent residence
We've done as much as we can to ensure we remain in Spain for the rest of our lives, with the last hurdle accomplished a week ago, exchanging our green credit card sized tarjetas for the version that states we are 'permanente'. We originally registered on the register of foreigners over 6 years ago,...

I don't post here very much these days but like many of you, I feel very fond of the members here who have helped me so much over the years. I like to pop in and see what you're doing
Mariacristina has become a very good friend and one of these days we might even meet! She's a lovely person.

Re: Changing to Spanish driving licence
It was very quick for my OH, via a gestor, a matter of weeks but much longer for me, via the same gestor. About 9 months, I think, from memory. The gestor blamed dvlc and also a backlog at trafico but I got the licence eventually. It wasn't expensive and did indeed avoid going backwards and forwards...

Re: Cádiz — a personal guide
Sounds absolutely lovely! Makes me realise we haven't really been out and about much since we moved here 7 years ago! The places we have visited, Seville, Granada, Cordoba and one or two other smaller places were all before we actually lived here. (We have been back with visitors to places not too f...
Re: Ants!!!!
Thanks, Unicorn, interesting!
Re: Ants!!!!
That would be good for us! I don't like the idea of spray or powder on the worktops. Thanks for the tip, Unicorn - the ants are more a nuisance than a big problem but I'd like them gone.

Re: Sold the house in Andalucia. Here's how it went.
I'm very pleased for you, DA - glad it all went as well as could be expected, you forearmed yourself with all the info you could, which helped you get through what always seems to be a complicated process here - selling a house. I'm sure your post will be very useful to others wanting to sell. Very ...

Re: Hospital Comarcal - good? Or go Private?
My husband and I have both had our gallbladders out at Hospital Comarcal and the care was excellent. If you decide to go private, Dr Veeger at Centro Mar y Salud in El Morche can refer you to a very good dermatologist. Here is her website (she speaks perfect English) https://centromarysalud.com/
Re: Ants!!!!
That's not good, Wicksey :( We are very lucky that they are not in our food cupboards. I wonder why they aren't...... they are on the worktops and the kitchen floor, unless I keep them very clean. If I leave a crumb out, it gets dragged away quickly. Of course, I'm pleased they aren't in the cupboar...

Re: Retaining residency while outside of spain
You can adopt me if you want someone to leave your assets to, Wicksey?
Oh, hang on - I'm quite a bit older than you so will no doubt go first lol.

Re: Ants!!!!
We co-exist with them - they don't really bother us. Yes, I have to keep work surfaces scrupulously clean otherwise I get hoards but otherwise, they don't bother us. There are a few on the floors in most of the rooms.... should I try to get rid of them? They disappear once the summer is over.

Re: Cooperative living for older people
Cooperative living appeals to me, too, Dave. The older I get, the more I worry about the future. I might be like my dad and stay fit and active when I'm 90..... or I might need some help.

The 840 euros a year to become a member is out of our reach. Interesting idea though, I do have a look at your website from time to time. .
