Loan of a car seat for a week from 4Sep18?

My lovely daughter is coming over with my beautiful 2-year old "nieta" for a visit and to avoid her having to bring a car seat over in the plane, I was wondering if anyone had one lying around that I could borrow. Anywhere in the vicinity of Baza (GRANADA) and along the corridor to Almeria airport w...

Carnival in Granada city?

I'll be in Granada for the weekend of the 20th Feb for the Vuelta Andalucia pro cycling stage race (http://www.vueltaandalucia.es/) and wondered if they'll be celebrating carnival then. I have searched in vain online for dates. And why do different places hold carnival events at different times? Sho...

The Beast of Baza?

While returning on my bike ride from a ride in the Sierra de Baza yesterday I was surprised to see, on a quiet camino near my home, the freshly-mauled remains of what I am almost certain used to be a large dog. The tangled, bloody mess contained the lengthy hind legs and not a lot else. While mutter...

Any tips on where to find a solid glass door?

I'm looking for one to allow more light in to my cave house. And contractors are currently drilling 4 big holes through the ceilings to install Solatubes, can't wait to see them installed. What a mess but once it's no longer a building site I should have a bright, comfortable, many-roomed cave dwell...

Re: Advice please on anti-dog barking devices

Thanks, I may just try ordering various different devices and trying them, then returning those that don't work. I suppose their success or otherwise depends on each dog and its tolerance of the ultrasonic noise produced, and perhaps also its intelligence and aggressiveness. Meanwhile today I was ou...

Re: Advice please on anti-dog barking devices

Thanks - not quite the suggestions I'd hoped for, but thanks again :) I dropped a note into the Policia Local on my way to the supermarket this morning, it was alerting them to the worst offender. A dog that didn't just bark, but howled and wailed and it just sounded so sad and awful and really quit...

Advice please on anti-dog barking devices

After over 6 years of being a hi-tech nomad in Spain and elsewhere, recently I bought a cave house near Baza (GRANADA) to do up, enjoy and to use a base for further mobile-living jaunts. Now a great thing about previously having "no fixed abode" is that the solution to almost any problem I encounter...

I hope it's ok to post a for sale ad here, if not - whoops and sorry!

Sorry I am afraid for sale ads are not allowed

Motorhome and Caravan Parking

This is probably one for Mr Searl. I know there is a law that says you can't free/wild camp within 2km of a camp site (although this law doesn't seem to be enforced), and Section 33.5 of the Law of the Coasts says no driving or camping on a beach (note: ON a beach as opposed to the approach and park...

I love this radio station!

I'm just back in Marbella and discovered "Radio Radio Network" on 98.8. It's such a pleasant change from the usual dross/terrible ads combination pumped out by all the other stations. The music is fresh and "feel good" and although it does have ads they are infrequent and unobtrusive. It seems to be...

Re: looking for camper van (VW or similar)

If you take a look on eBay UK and then compare with Spain prices you'll see that it is FAR cheaper to buy caravans, etc from there. I'm not sure why this is, but it applies to cars, too. It might not be an option for you, but just a friendly tip. Oh but be aware that some UK motorhomes cannot be tra...

Update on Orange 3G net service

Just to mention they doubled the monthly limit from 5Gb to 10 for €35 +IVA on contract. That's more like it :) And the coverage is pretty good nowadays; I get great service in places that were troublesome before.

Re: Dental treatment under the health service?

I asked my dentist today, she told me it's limited to one extraction - any further work is extra. So I suppose if you had two dodgy teeth you'd have to make separate appointments. Hmm, I think I'll stick with private.

Re: Dental treatment under the health service?

Ok thanks for the responses. Well I did wonder about the quality of any free treatment, I've been very pleased how the two private dentists I've used have never considered extractions for any problem teeth I've had and the root canal jobs I've had so far have been around €200 each, which is a bargai...

Dental treatment under the health service?

I have always used private dentists here in Spain and didn't think to find out if any work was covered by the Spanish health service. I read somewhere that some health centres offer some dental treatment but can anyone give details from experience? Over the last few years my dental work, mostly root...

Re: Why was everything shut today?

Ah thanks folks - I saw the Día de Asturias listed but stupidly assumed that only applied in Asturias. It's great to see the country working so hard to pull itself out of the recession :lolno: p.s. If you think the holiday system here is complicated, you should try my native Scotland, where every to...

Why was everything shut today?

I tried to get some hardware & sports shopping in today, but everything was shut and the roads deserted in Malaga. I checked the list of holidays but nothing listed for today or Monday. Anyone know what the reason is?

Evening cycling training

Almost every weekday evening (6 to 8-ish) there is an informal cycling training session at San Pedro de Alcantara seafront, if anyone's interested. It's a well-lit, well-surfaced, low-traffic, almost flat 3km road circuit. Usually about 10-20 "roadies" and often some people on mountain bikes too. Qu...
