Re: Concrete slab

You'll need to design it won't you? And that will need to take account of its intended use (utility room again?) and the sort of building and location it's in. It sounds traditional to me from what you say: cavity walls don't exist in Spain as they do in the UK, so a stone bank will allow ground wat...

Re: Concrete slab

Concrete will not be the finished surface will it? If there are to be tiles put over the concrete, either ceramic or lozos de barro , then a dpc can be laid over the concrete and before the tiles go down, taking it part way up the walls before roda de pies go on. Ceramic tiles in themselves are a fo...

Re: First actual problem re:Brexit

Not strictly to do with bank accounts, but Barclays did withdraw "support" for the share trading account I had with them last December. I could still hold the shares with Barclays, but they would no longer accept any instructions to buy/sell/or whatever. Mind you, the amount of paper generated by ho...

Re: First actual problem re:Brexit

Trawling the 'net and found this:

https://personal.natwest.com/personal/c ... s_hub.html

It's dated 2020 at the bottom of the page. What's on the page seems straightforward,

Does anyone know if this can include those of us who might be losing out from Barclays or Lloyds?

Re: Olive Press

But is the journalism any good? It's usually spot on with up-to-date stories, but never covered in-depth, often leaving more questions that answers it gives! Compare with Sur in English which annoyingly has unchanged content day after day. I reckon that surfing between those two and El Pais in Engli...

Re: Vet - Granada/Antequera

I have found that most vets work alone! But should you want a reasonably good vet in Antequera ("reasonably good" because we haven't really tested him thoroughly yet!) we use Paco aka Leon. Haven't got an address but he's in the road at the side of Lidl and if you want his phone numbers, pm me. He u...

Re: Tank and pump for house

Can't quite get my head around it as it was years ago now, that I had the same set-up, BUT for some reason and somewhere in the line, there was a non-return valve......but that may have been because it was set up to use village/mains pressure when available and only tank/pump when not. I'd have to d...

Insect zapping gadgets

Seems to be a plague of very annoying flies around at the moment. Has anyone got an exterior "Insectocutor" that works?....and that, thus, can be recommended? I've tried a chinese cheapie that does kill whatever lands on the enticing light, but which is ignored by the flies that still want to land o...

Re: Deposit or well?

Hi! Complicated eh? You seem to have worked out some details correctly viz: the visible pump kicking in whenever the town water pressure drops below a certain level: in your case you say it's 1.5 bar. But where does that pump draw its water from when it "kicks-in"? If you've traced all the pipework ...

Re: Antequera

I live near Antequera: Fuente de Piedra. Yes, it's hot in summer and cold in winter. We live there for reasons that suit us. Is not Villanueva del Rosario on the coastal side of the mountain chain? In which case, our weather may be different: you'll have to find some way of experiencing those extrem...

Our Town Hall is doing (some) things AFAIK. I suspect it depends upon the mayor. You'll have to ask.

15 minutes for us I was told when they saw me for a second time!
But then there's the walk to the basura....then the one to the recycling......then it's lunchtime and another "physiological" excursion. The "man on the Clapham omnibus" doesn't seem to figure in Spanish law!

Re: Dog walking during the lockdown

My dog and I were approached by the policia local this morning who asked where I lived. I was about 400m from my home and I told them my address. He said "cerca la casa". I asked how many metres, in the light of this thread, and he said "It's not metres, it's close to the house". We parted with me a...

What's the latest, best, 'phone line deal?

As it says in the Subject heading: what is the best 'phone line deal at the moment. All I want is an internet connection and, for example, Movistar wants to sell me a fibre optic internet/ phone line, "free" phone calls and all the razzamataz that I don't need for 52 euros per month (excluding cuoto...

Well! The tank finally burst and fortunately I was at home to hear the water gushing out and was able to isolate it before serious damage was caused to the house! I've now got a new solar panel and tank etc for 1600euros. Standard bit of kit from Bricomart for 750 euros plus parts and fitting, sourc...

Re: Harvesting green olives

All "our" olives, that is to say those in the surrounding groves, are green and they've been going at it since the 1st October. They're still at it in some groves which supports the argument that there are various varieties. Indeed, one local producer, sells bottles of single variety oil. That's jus...
