Re: Certificate of Permanent Residence

Just to follow up. We successfully obtained our certificates of permanent residence yesterday. It was all very easy. We were called 30minutes after our appointment time and left an hour later with the certificates. It took so long because once having made the application at one of the desks we then...

Re: Radio Fusion Inicia

Many DNS servers don't wok well Netflix. One that does most of the time is SmartDNS, which I have set to the USA. However I also have another router with no DNS settings and on this one it automatically goes to the Spanish version and cannot be changed anywhere else inside the EU anyway because of t...

Re: First actual problem re:Brexit

Do others have a credit card with their bank? I do and it works slightly different from the typical UK one because It works in a calendar month and automatically takes payment on the the first of the month for all transaction made the previous month. Whereas my UK cards when timed right can give me ...

Re: Residencia appointment

I am not sure if they have the facilty (or ability) to process the fingerprint and photograph there and then and magically produce your card at the same time. The idea of applying online is to reduce the number of visits to the police station. That's how the Spanish do it. They have the machines th...

Re: First actual problem re:Brexit

Interesting. Halifax was a building society but is now owned by Lloyds who are one of the banks telling customers they have to close their accounts. I suspect we will not get anything certain or concrete for ages yet ... Listening to the link that beachcomber gave I seem to remember that Lloyds wer...

Re: Residencia appointment

I can only see that it must be in the province that you live in, so not sure if you could go to another police station. You must collect the card from the same station you did the application in is all that I've read. It is tempting, knowing how difficult is is to get appointments. Obviously, It is...

Re: First actual problem re:Brexit

My situation mirrors quite a few for who having a UK account in the UK is rather convenient. Collecting rent and paying for maintenance as well as being able to spend funds generated in the UK there especially as the exchange rate is poor so for the moment, it is better not to change anything into E...

Re: Coronavirus

There seems to be a misunderstanding of my post regarding overcrowding in Madrid. The problem isn’t because people aren’t social distancing. I don’t know where your daughter was but here in general people social distance including in bars where tables are separated on terraces and inside bars the ta...

Re: Coronavirus

That seems to be the situation generally in Spain. It most places life goes on normally with some differences from the Uk. Here masks have to be worn but most places don’t have the rule of six although in certain areas of Madrid it has been introduced. I know a few people who have currently got it. ...

Re: Best VPN?

I thought you didn’t need to touch the router with a VPN. I understood if you downloaded it on to say an Amazon firestick it was done from there. Correct, you can either put it on your router or device permitting on the device. I have used smartdnsproxy vpn for some years now. Yes it depends what d...

Re: Best VPN?

The free ones tend to slow down internet speeds and some are not so secure. Many posters don’t use VPNs due to the fact they also are more complicated to set up on a router so prefer a SmartDns server. The advantage of a free one is just that, they are free. None are perfect and problems arise from ...

Re: One for the iPhone ,iPad Fan Boys/Girls

I was just checking it out. My old Ipad air is becoming quite sluggish and I was thinking about replacing it. I tend to buy my Apple stuff from K-tuin, an Apple recognised outlet. They have shops throughout Spain . They offer discounts which is quite difficult to find with Apple. On black Friday I g...

Re: Road Trip

There must have been a massive north south divide. I first visited Bilbao in the early eighties it was quite developed and there were already motorways here. By the early nineties, it was possible to go to Santander San Sebastian and Madrid on one. In fact I remember driving from London to Bilbao th...

Re: Road Trip

There are various ways to drive up through Spain. I usually stop off at at least one or two places on the way up or down. Toledo, Avila Salamanca and Segovia are all beautiful. Madrid is another must if you haven't already visited it. Then further north, some of the places already mentioned but one ...

Re: Coronavirus

The system you talk about I haven’t come across in Spain.
I have used it to order breakfast in some pubs in the Uk and Ireland.
The system here is to view the menu online, In a similar way to viewing a takeaway menu but the difference is you then give the order to the waiter as per normal.

Re: A useful tip?

I tried that once with an IPhone which got wet in a heavy shower and it didn’t work.
I had an IPhone X and now have a IPhone 11pro and was under the impression that they can both survive being under water for a limited time.

Re: BT sport monthly pass

If someone does it on your behalf and uses it from time to time in the UK, then it should work in Spain without a DNS or VPN. The only problem being Brexit and if the Media companies decide to block its use outside the UK again. https://www.bt.com/help/tv/can-i-use-my-bt-tv-or-bt-sport-app-outside-o...

Re: Coronavirus

(Being in the campo we do walk here without a mask, as do neighbours.) Although against the rules, it seems to me a very sensible thing to do. Anyone who has visited the Bilbao area will be aware of its rather strange layout because it straddles the river and everyone lives close to the countryside...
