Re: Traditional Arts and Crafts.

Well..... Great that someone actually remembers 'Rag Rugs', they've actually been around since at least the Victorian times, probably earlier..... And as with all things they are back again, popular with people living in fashionable 'lofts' etc., and of course much more expensive than in the 70's. I...

Re: Restoring Historical Artefacts.

Chrissie, Restoring old houses can be a really interesting project , but also very expensive, but I do like to see houses that have been restored sympathetically and retaining original features. As you know our present house is new, after years of living in ongoing building projects I wanted a finis...

Re: Traditional Arts and Crafts.

Pamela, Encouraging children to be creative is great, the problem is competing with the technology available now, it's really difficult to keep their attention on a project. Metal detecting is also a great hobby, but most important to observe the rules and regulations and I would recommend anyone in...

Re: Traditional Arts and Crafts.

Wicksey, I share your concern for the future of the human race, I don't think that many realise that they are already turning into Zombies, I dread to think how many would cope if the internet totally crashed, they wouldn't be able to function... As for yourself becoming involved with a craft...

Re: Hairline cracks

Ha Ha....Kneeling not an option with my dodgy knees... :(

I can walk for miles ..no problem...but standing no...so a 30 minute filling cracks job would take me 90 minutes with lots of tea breaks....

Gordon...

Re: Hairline cracks

Gerry, When painting over hairline cracks I use the same principle as when restoring/ repairing pottery. The hairline cracks gather dust and dirt so first I spray a little bleach in them , then after a few minutes scrub lightly and spray clean water in them, allow to dry then a light sanding. When c...

Re: Traditional Arts and Crafts.

Pamela, Thank you for your kind words. :thumbup The past year has been so trying for everyone and nearly every post on the forum and elsewhere seemed to contain the words Covid or Brexit, understandable as both these blights have had immense effect on our lives. So I'm really happy if I can make a f...

Re: Parcel : UK to Spain

Sid, Was that Certificado ?, which I use regularly for not so important items but need a signature and it's the same as recorded in UK and many times I've had regular mail delivered faster. However, correos do have many more products available for more important items such as documents, but as I said...

Re: Traditional Arts and Crafts.

Chrissie....Good to hear about your craft projects . I'm sure that everyone could have a worthy project to do if they wanted to, it's just about self-motivation, I suspect many people are becoming couch potatoes because of the present situation ? Regards, Gordon...Mr.Motivator.. :D

Re: Restoring Historical Artefacts.

Thank you Gerry. That's a good idea about posting a photo of the lock and I will attempt it next week, at the moment the lock movement is languishing in a bath of olive oil, a great preservative.... Regards, Gordon. ps. I think that I've forgotten your birthday this year, so belated greetings...

Re: Parcel : UK to Spain

I've been a 'heavy user' of all types of delivery services in Spain for many years and I'm really loath to recommend anyone at present, the situation has been dire UK -Spain and vice versa since January 1st. However Correos would probably be the best at the moment ,in my opinion, because the courier...

Restoring Historical Artefacts.

Many of my 'pastimes/hobbies/ interests seem to blend seamlessly for me. This week I've been restoring an old door lock which I recovered from an ancient Spanish house many years ago while helping a friend, he had no interest in historical items so I came away with a boxful of 'goodies'. Having more...

Traditional Arts and Crafts.

I was just wondering if anyone is involved with the older traditional crafts, for instance marquetry, pyrography ( pokerwork ) , macrame. etc ? I've always been interested in craftwork going right back to when I was a very small child and my Grandfather introduced me to the many seafaring craft past...

Re: The Armchair Shopper.

Thanks for that Sid  I'm not a 'Big Boozer', but I do enjoy a nice glass of wine, red or white most evenings, as for spirits I rarely drink any apart from an occasional glass of quality whisky or brandy, and I don't like mixed drinks, just a drop of water, maybe. Regards, Gordon..hi...

Re: Vaccine war with EU

I find it really difficult to believe anything about the various vaccine jabs that are available and I'm in no hurry to get one ! Personally I've decided to just continue keeping my distance when I do have to go out and I'll 'sit it out' and wait and see. I'd prefer to see the vaccine being offerred...
