Re: EHIC renewal

Hi Miro, I would like a clarification on your point about your Spanish friend. So would I! I don't know, and I'm not sure anybody does. I was basing my suggestion on what FAL said (that the UK will continue to issue EHICs for some) and others' continued assertion that EU citizens' rights are protec...

Re: EHIC renewal

I understand that for many, the EHIC has limited value. I also know that for others, as POR points out, travel insurance can become prohibitively expensive and exclude any pre-existing conditions (the ones you're most likely to need help with). To me it's a bizarre situation because my Spanish frien...

Re: EHIC renewal

Thanks for not answering my question Sid. So, until and unless we hear that the UK will definitely continue to participate fully in the EHIC scheme, from what you're saying FAL, my understanding is that the UK will issue EHICs to UK pensioners already resident in the EU and receiving their healthcar...

Re: EHIC renewal

In the eventuality that the UK decides not to be part of the EHIC scheme after the end of the year, will UK pensioners currently resident in Spain be able to get one from the Spanish SS? Their rights as EU citizens are supposed to protected, but I'm not sure how this will work. And also, what about ...

Re: Coronavirus

That's why increasingly "excess deaths" (over the same period for previous years' average) are being reported by various media. Current figures appearing for UK are around 55-60,000. Not sure if there's an official source for this figure; also, any comparison to other countries' excess death figures...

Re: Leaving spain

I think (just my opinion, don't quote me!) that if you want to ensure that you can safely avoid submitting a tax return for 2020, all you need to do is declare yourself (and your wife) to be tax resident in the UK by June 30th, i.e. by notifying HMRC of your UK address. The authorities are probably ...

Re: Forum software update

Glad to see the issues on Chrome OS appear to have been resolved. Just wondering why I'm back to not receiving e-mail notifications for threads I'm subscribed to. Had this problem before & changed from my Hotmail account to Gmail, which resolved it, but now Gmail isn't getting them either (and yes, ...

Re: Forum software update

No problems using the site on PC or mobile phone (Android/Chrome), but on Chromebook it's a bit of a mess. Anybody else using Chrome OS having problems / been able to test it? Two main problems: all the topics in the index are covered with little A.com logos; all the drop down menus are open and hav...

You can reorganise the columns to show in order of deaths/tests/cases per million of population. Whichever way you look at it, the situation in both Spain and the UK is pretty devastating & tragic

Re: Coronavirus

I'm finding all the discussion about who/what/where you are allowed out very interesting. From what I gather here and from talking to friends/former neighbours in Torremolinos, the lockdown in Spain has been far stricter than here in the UK. I live in a town of roughly the same size as Torremolinos ...

Re: Coronavirus

Mr O´Leary has a slightly different take on things, as usual: https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2020/0416/1130817-oleary-on-ryanair-plans/ He also makes fairly good points re: social distancing. https://onemileatatime.com/ryanair-ceo-social-distancing/ TBH, leaving the middle seat empty isn't going t...

Re: Coronavirus

Following on from my previous post, the same Fakebook friend has just posted a b&w photo alledgedly showing a family during the Spanish flu pandemic c.1918. Six family members, all wearing masks. One of them is holding a cat, which also appears to be wearing a face mask. How long before that goes vi...

Re: Coronavirus

It just takes one or two to be seen taking measures and those who never thought about doing so start to think that they better do the same. I think social media has a lot to answer for - although I appreciate that no platform can control or account for the idiocy of it's users. I saw a post from a ...

Re: Coronavirus

A lot of the lookies were legalised after been here x amount of years. Running the risk of being accused of going off-topic, I know...but surely if they were legalised they'd no longer be working as lookie men? After all, selling counterfeit goods on the beach isn't legal. I personally knew one bri...

Re: Coronavirus

....would rather give it to an African. Just made me think....I wonder what all the look-see men are doing? Don't suppose there'll be any govt. help for them, unless they're registered as refugees/assylum seekers. Furthermore, I haven't seen any news items about migrants crossing the Med recently. ...

I wonder if this may spell the end of dirt cheap flights though? Will the budget airlines survive? And how long before people feel confident going on cruises again?

Re: Coronavirus

Strange, isn't it? Plenty of fresh peppers here, which almost certainly came from Spain! Forgot to mention, I did want some corriander seeds, but couldn't get them. I can live without. Yes, there is a very relaxed atmosphere everywhere & it feels very safe. Maybe because we live in an area with an e...
