Re: House sale proceeds

A banker's draft should not take six days to clear. DA said that the proceeds of the sale of his Spanish property were in his UK bank account within 48 hours. The thread has struck a chord with me as I posted an almost identical one last year before completion, and got info., the same info the OP i...

Re: House sale proceeds

We just had the cheque made out from the buyers to us, just to be sure what amount was on the cheque when we received it. Much like we should have insisted the buyers kept our retention in their bank as opposed to their lawyers.

Re: House sale proceeds

Our completion one year ago went exactly as Beachcomber describes. The only money of ours a lawyer got near was our retention for a DAFO we paid for. Not seen a penny of it since.

Re: House sale proceeds

Don't give the buyers lawyer a sniff of it. Currencies direct will send a rep. to the Notaria on day of completion, you hand them the cheque and job done. Money will be in your own bank account of choice within 48 hours.

Re: Carburetor Mechanic in Motril

There are lots of suppliers of refurb kits for most carbs on Ebay and the like, one bloke in particular I've used a lot (fastroadcars). Not a lot to go wrong with them really so on most occasions a capable mechanic with sort it.....although fewer and fewer around now who've even seen a carb I'd gues...

Re: Road Trip

Totally agree with that Beachy. 20 years ago when I took our first car over there to leave in Spain we must have taken the route (or similar) you mention. Sadly I was with a mate and not the other half.....and we were going at break neck pace with no overnight stop just to get there ready to pick th...

Re: Road Trip

Another gem in the La rochelle region for a stop is a town called St Jean D'angely. Not a huge place as we avoid them but well big enough to explore. Lovely central square with safe parking too. Lot's of restaurants and bars and a truly French olde worlde morning market that is fabulous....all food ...

Re: Road Trip

Plaza Nueva in Bilbao is an absolute must if you love a nice wine and some of the best tapas in the world. If it's anything like back to the way we found it last year it's a memorable place to visit. We stayed outside Bilbao in a town called Muskiz and a hotel called Munatones. Highlight was the eas...

Re: Road Trip

Ah, thinking about it again some of the gems we found were off the beaten track, La Pedraza in Segovia for instance, stayed in the best hotel we've ever used in Spain, beautiful place with a world renowned restaurant too in the lovely walled village. Whether it's open and functioning in these times ...

Re: Road Trip

We've done the leisurely multi day trip from UK to Andalucia for the last 3 years now as opposed to flying, a lot more expensive but it became a major feature of the holiday, discovering places you'd never see otherwise. We have never enjoyed holidays as much, something new every day.....gutted not ...

Re: Coronavirus

Best one yet. A lady at OH's firm had slight symptoms so went to the local test centre, she logged on when there with her details and was given a test number. It was very busy indeed, eventually with queue taking so much time to go down she left without having the test. Phone goes today and the call...

Re: One year ago today, to the hour.

Thanks Olive and yes where has that time gone? I followed your posts on the struggles you had to get back home and again it was all part of the surreal blur. Truly hoping you get to travel more very shortly and get the house on the market and sold.....then pastures new. This can't go on forever, peo...

One year ago today, to the hour.

Where's that gone? At this very moment we were sliding our house keys across the desk as a cheque was slid our way as we completed the house sale at the Notary office in Velez Malaga. We all shook hands and went ours separate ways, we stopped for an ice cream on the way to the car then set off at 2....

Shock wave was truly nuclear looking.......that's what did the damage.

Last reports I saw last night was it was a 6 year old acid storage unit that had gone up. Haven't yet checked today what they are saying now.
