Re: 3% retention tax
So the CGT rate is almost 39%, based on the alleged gain of 46.000€ (17.900€ as a % of 196.000 - 150.000€)?? I would be interested to know if the buyer has had an additional purchase tax bill for the difference between the 130k he paid and the alleged selling price of 196k. It all seems a bit odd t...

Re: Car insurance during import process?
Most spanish insurers will cover on foreign plates for years, as long as they have affiliates in the relevant country. Liberty seguros & Mapfre both cover the UK legally by supplying the dvla& MID with onfo each week . Just use a decent agent & ask for French cover.

Re: Friends in Spain buying a UK car - legal?
No. It is illegal to drive a foreign plated vehicle in the country where you are resident. There are no exceptions like " if it doesn't belong to you " & "ok if the owner is with you " I had it all out with dvla & EU in 2013 . A resident can only drive a vehicle plated in...

.....or no MOT certificate: 200 euro fine On Tuesday night at the airport there was police roadblock and they were only stopping foreign plated vehicles, they pulled 4 Uk plates while I was watching. 3 of them were on Sorn, and one without mot, therefore no insurance. They knew immediately, and tow...

Must vary region to region. Cost of materials alone here for the licence. They even supply the price per linear metre ,M2, m3, etc; of everything applicable under 'small works licence'. All on freely available A4 sheets.

Re: Intruder alarm companies
Yes it seems to vary - my friend paid €499 installation but he has an extra camera outside and with Prosegur. I paid only €299 (seemed to be a very special discount - don't know why) for 2 internal camera and a magnetic door detector plus of course all the usual fobs and panels and access via app. ...

It is worth asking at your council as some, including mine, waive road tax on any vehicle over 25 years old regardless of whether registered as historic or not.

Re: Driving in tunnels wearing sunglasses.
My Spanish prescription sunglasses came with a small leaflet. It states that they are graded by filtration from 0 to 4. The numbers are on the inside of the arms. 4= cannot wear for driving. ever, day or night. 3=Cannot be worn at dusk/night when driving 2 = as above 1=As above 0= are the only filte...

To put it on retention or swopit the donor vehicle has to be mot'd/taxed. You cannot remove /put on retention from a no legal vehicle.

We don't even know if we will want to stay longer than 6 months so no point in registering for permanent tax status. The other thing I wondered about is access to doctors. I know we can use our EHIC for emergency treatment and we can pay to see a doctor, we do have travel insurance which cove...

Re: Importing a British UK plated Car into Spain
MOT's have long since changed. You can't just buy a fake and show it to the insurers or police. Everything is on the data base and fired through to DVLA when car finishes its test. Hence why the "certificate" you get is just a piece of white printed A4 paper for your records, easy to forg...

Chinese "pound shops" here in Spain. I just do not get the business model. You hardly see people buying yet the square metreage is huge. Subsidised from China - probably. My understanding is they are subsididsed by local governments in Spain. It seems that are excempt from certain taxes f...
