Re: TIE card
True. I think most of my companeros are newish to residency or non-res heading back for long periods at a time but I've been a bit stunned by some neighbours. One chum, bilingual, no UK address other than offspring's, only changed his recently. Why? UK doesn't even require IDPs for any state's full ...

Re: TIE card
Interesting, Wicksey. After December, I decided that >6months here is more likely than >6months 'there' and have residencia (done last week). The DGT website was (and I presume still is) adamant that a simple switch of my driver's licence will not be possible if an application is made after 31/1 (tr...

Re: Is Wheel Clamping allowed ?
Two of the nearby blocks (not mine) have parking spaces allocated to owners and they have droppable/lockable posts similar, but more visible, to Beach's. There could be savings in bulk purchase and installation if you had a community meeting, got some quotes etc. I know circs vary, but I would consi...

Re: What's the latest, best, 'phone line deal?
I went with Olivenet as they have a 100Mb Fibre internet and nothing else added for €19.90/mes. Seems to be ok with all 'phones and my laptop surfing simultaneously. The only pizza-wheel-wait of annoyance was with the other Lenovo on iplayer but I connected it up to the modem-router using an RJ45 ca...

Re: Seeing Africa last evening from Nerja
Blimey, might get a lockdown (hopefully) before this ends up like those Youtube flame wars. Light refraction is a thing, although it's okay to consider it an illusion if you like. In the same way as the science demonstration with the coin in a cup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFYsyTbjw7g there ar...

Re: Seeing Africa last evening from Nerja
Very brief diagonal - but the mention of refraction, observer height and (the dreaded Nikon P900) magnification gave me the shivers. I've been called a 'globetard/Illuminatus' enough times elsewhere to develop a twitch.

Re: Rough pic but what is it?
Yes, I think I'm out on the decade. Split-screen more likely on the pre-wars and, although there's not much to go on, the general look of those billboards suggests 1950s as advertizing was more often directly painted onto gable walls in the 30s. Otherwise, hard to date the scene. Obviously Marbella,...

Tricky from that distance, but it could be a Fordson panel van, circa 1938

Re: moto (again)
I just looked at Peter's Amazon.es link (above). There did seem to be several that had lock holes and good, thick nylon around €17. They should do the job well.

Re: Confusion about NIE/Residency
Manchesteral, your number should stick to you. My 2001 NIE was no use for a 2017 car purchase but I have a good memory for alphanumerics and my NIE was an easy brainstore. As Sid says, that passport number may be handy. Do you keep your old Spanish bank books? I do, and my changing passport numbers ...

I had a quick scan for info on metotrexato and didn't see anything implying OTC availability. Best to talk to your Geep about this.

Re: moto (again)
I would advise that you buy one where the lock passes through the cover, and is thick, durable nylon. I have bought three car half-covers (roof and windows). One - within a week - was considered such a good idea that somebody took it. The next two (I passed the fastenings through locked doors) both ...

Re: Internet/ISP recommendations for Benalmadena/costa del sol area?
Quick update on Olivenet. Very solid and fast enough for my uses. We did get some issues watching UKTV so I switched to tethering from my Simyo data allowance which made things worse. It turns out that Smarty DNS was the problem, not Olivenet, but it served to demo that it was more capable than my 4...

Re: Spanish keyboard v Uk keyboard
You're right, Wicksey; all countries have variations (US is mildly different and French isn't even qwerty but azerty). As Beach says, I'd rather have Spanish but I can get Lenovos dirt cheap in Blighty so I have to wish everyone a Happy New Bottomhole in late December, which causes its own problems.

Re: Router
Been back a few days and suddenly remembered to check my router lying unused in the drawer. It's a ZTE mf283, as I thought and included a link to previously. There's no mention of 5Ghz (plenty of lower frequency bands, perhaps showing its age) which seemed to be a requirement, Gina, so I'm afraid it...

Re: Headlamp adaptors for lhd car in uk
I'm teetotal, so's my non-driving missus. My long-standing garage MOT'd the car (2002 - before all these 'projector' headlamps became the rage) and categorically told me there's no bleed onto the left that would annoy Eurodrivers and he's correct. It's just that I'll be driving back in Nov so I am m...

Bet you said "I'm Travelling, Will Bury it deep in the skip" Love it  I didn't, Trooperman, because I am nowhere near clever enough. I confess it took me two or three mins of wondering what songs you were on about, then what song might have such lyrics, and then a search engine: ...

Re: Tyre replacement Nerja
There's a small disadvantage (might not even be the case with neumaticos, but has been for me with others) that sometimes .es or .co.uk websites still source the tyres from Poland or wherever it's dirt cheap and it can be a while before they arrive. I had four new boots and my garage did correctly p...

Re: Headlamp adaptors for lhd car in uk
Pity this is too late to help, but purchasing at the ports or Chunnel is about 2x the ebay price and, if UK/EU flitting were a regular thing (for anyone else reading) there is a brand that you place one way up for adapting to UK and upside down for adapting to EU. Downside is that they're not as sup...

Re: Sold the house in Andalucia. Here's how it went.
Sorry to read that you're now only in one neck of my woods, DA. Just flown back tonight (my Euro-trekker still parked here) after a fortnight in UK. Unfortunately, my tooth removal (injection hurt more than the mild tug needed) snowballed into swift appointments and even an overnighter for everyone ...
